yellow exclamation on startup

Mornin,

I have an annoying issue, when starting the engine on my 2.2 diesel I get a yellow exclamation in a circle in the central rev counter display and a bong sound and the little i light comes on.. stays on for about a second then goes off. the car starts and drives normally is it anything to worry about? or is it just a feature?

it does not happen everytime I start it usually from cold.. or if its been sat on an angle..

Cheers

Take it back to your dealer, it possibly will have logged some error codes which they will be able to use to diagnose the problem.

It's normal and nothing to worry about (so long as the light goes off). If it stays on then there is a fault.

No nothing really to report.. Dealer said the same thing to me 'we've never heard of that before' followed by 'there are no worrying error codes logged' mine doesn't do it as often now probably once every couple of weeks if that..

Hi,

I have the same problem, started about 3 months ago, no fault reported by dealer.

I am pretty sure its the power steering light that flashes on and off, and seems to be first start after an overnight stop.

Not so sure that its normal, but bow to greater knowledge...!

Update,

Its not the power steering light that flashes on and off, it is the VSA - again seems to be the first start after an overnight/long stop.

I'm getting the same problem with my 2006 2.2 Diesel. I get the yellow exclamation in the display with "check system" it only happens occasionally when I first start the car. It comes on for a few seconds then goes out. I took it into Honda last week and they plugged into the diagnostic computer. The service guy was telling me there are that many error codes coming up they would need to take the car in for a day and strip it down and it wouldn't be covered under warranty. At £80 an hour that could be a very expensive fault finding mission. I don't know if they are just trying it on.

I asked them for a list of the errors that are coming up but they seem a bit reluctant to give them to me.

Warranty runs out on the 17th this month. As my car was involved in an accident. (very minor wing and bumper damage) a while back Honda are saying the faults are related to that.

I had an issue with the battery going flat a couple of weeks ago and they fixed that under warranty as they mentioned there was a bulletin regarding the battery being drained when the key had been removed from the iginition.

I spoke to them again this morning and they said it could be an earthing problem.

The warning comes on momentarily when the engine starts up amd sometimes it doesn't come on at all. The only thing that got me spooked was when they plugged it in and said it came up with loads of errors.

If the light goes off, then I wouldn't worry about it. And likewise the errors can all be just recording a momentary fault - like the deliberate disconnection of a wire while it was being fixed.

If the car is driving fine, with no light on, then I'd just relax about it.

Thanks for the reassurance. I think I will spend my cash getting some 18" blades and tyres than getting honda chasing around looking for a fault that probably isn't there and charging me £80 an hour!

Hey Team and J4MMY, I also have the same issue and have searched the forums several times to see if anyone else has this issue and/or a solution.

My reading tells me that so long as the warning light goes out again then there is nothing to worry about. It's put down to the load on the battery when starting the engine from cold. The load on the battery trips a sensor temporarily.

I am not aware Honda UK have a solution to this, but am prepared to be told otherwise.

Marc

Hi Marc,

Like you say Honda don't seem to have a solution for this. I'm reassured by Pottsy and your explanantion that this is just one of those annoying issues as long as the warning goes out and you have no other warning lights on the dash it's not worth worrying about.

I'm certainly not going to let the dealer have it for a full day at £80.

Thanks
