Mute button for the radio....

Somebody will probably tell me that this function already exists

On our other (VAG) car a single press of the on/off/vol button mutes the radio - useful when listening to the reverse park (which seems a little quiet on the Civic imho). I know that this is achievable by turning the vol control down but the single press thingy works nicely.

And I second the electronics working for 30 seconds post, once again the Honda habit of killing all power even though the key remains in the ignition is irritating (same on an Accord btw). Leaving the windows & mirror-folding working (I think until the driver's door is opened on other makes) is a nice feature.

Did anyone mention a separate boot opener button on the key fob (cf the Accord tourer, doesn't need the fancy powered tailgate though).

But the Civic is still a great car !

Perhaps I've missed something, but what's wrong with the off button? That mutes the sound. Turning it on again unmutes it. Why on earth would you need a seperate mute button?

Parts that dont need replacing within a short period of time would be a bonus!

So that if you are listening to an MP3 CD, it wouldn't have to go through all the 'Reading Disc' shenanigans when you turn it back on?

Some interesting ideas on this thread. I've only just got the car, but I too find it irritating that the key is so large and bulky. You can keep all your fancy keyless entry stuff, just having it fold like an Audi fob would be good enough for me! I suppose this could even be introduced and then existing owners could order a new key....I'd be up for it. So perhaps something to bang on about at every opportunity

I also didn't realise new Vectras have DAB. My Cougar had it (an aftermarket Blaupunkt DAB/CD player) and I do miss it. I guess a small DAB radio/FM Transmitter would suffice for now though.

I'd like to see:

An effective quality control department
A management that respects customers
A product Honda, and Honda owners can be proud of

and.......

the present Honda UK management team FIRED and replaced by a team from Japan that value Honda's past reputation and customers.

At least the final item might go a long way to securing the former targets.

This has been a useful thread. After a meeting with and a specific request by Honda, they are keen for design feedback on the car (amongst other things). I have summarised the content of this thread for them as follows:

Another vote for folding key, low washer fluid (dangerous not to have in countries with real winters) and aux in.

Also:

Extra 12V outlets.
One for the rear seats and one in the dash on the drivers outer side.

Possibility to upload POIs like speed cams into the sat-nav.

Pre-out on the HU for attaching amps.

An ethanol powered version.

Make the ashtray and cigarette lighter cost options.

I suppose a "stealth mode" is out of the question?
Or a civinfo flyer in each car when delivered...

But in summary it is already the coolest car you can buy for reasonable money.
4000 civinfo members can´t be wrong.
Just needs a few tweaks.

I'd 'un-vote' move the speedo to centre of tacho - I think it's in exactly the right place, short of a HUD!

Another un-vote for moving the speedo, it's in the right place.
A un-vote for beep when you set the alarm, there used to be a couple of cars with that feature where I lived, and it used to wake me up sometimes.

Add
Mirrors folding on locking the car.
AUX input/USB port for MP3
DAB Radio
Keyless entry and starting of car. (However groovy the start button is, is it a bit of a pain to have to turn the key then press a button, but to just press the start button would be great) If a Yaris can have this feature then so can a Civic
Rear wiper
Better dash plastic.

A HUD would really add to the spaceship feel...

Yep, un-vote the speedo. To be honest, if it's improvements for the next MY, then.......

Improve trim/dash plastics - good , but could be better. Reduce rattles/squeaks
Aux in of some sort as standard and DAB option
Make handbrake lever not feel loose and poor quality
Make door handles less clunky
Tougher paint!

Some of the things suggested would be only suitable for the next generation Civic.

  • Definitley would appreciate adjustable driver's seat base angle
  • Auto dipping rear view mirror
  • parking sensors as standard
  • Inside the car, door locks that de-activate when opening the door, without having to use the security lock/unlock button first on the armrest
  • Electric windows remain operable for short time after ignition is switched off
  • Beeps when remote locking/unlocking.Also, key folding into fob
  • radio can be switched on with ig. key out(radio goes off after say half hour)
