AC/Heater Heater - slow warm up on 2.2 diesel

Hi all,

I've recently noticed (probably due to the cold weather) that my heater, no matter what setting is used and I have used plenty, is taking upwards of 10 to 15 mins mins to produce any noticeable heat.

I have searched for any other posts concerning this as my Honda dealer tells me this is quite normal for the diesel model, but can't find anybody complaining. If it was one of my "old bangers" from past years I'd say the thermostat was stuck open... it's probably more technical these days.

Is Honda correct? I'd apprieciate any comments as my wife is driving me crazy.

Or buy a 12 quid cigarette lighter heater for the extra cold months. Honda economised by removing the electric heater many diesels have IIRC.

Seriously, what about heated front seats ? ... from memory, some £200 for after-market kit ...

She's been called lots of things but never "Patience" - not her stong point, so I will buy a car heater today, thanks for the links Tom. if that's not enough I will look into the aftermarket heated seats... hadn't thought of that either.

My cars the same, it was very slow to warm up in the cold spell we had, assume its because the engine is low revving. I bought some gloves.

Seriously mine takes a while to warm up too and I'm considering one of those heater things just to warm the car up quicker, especially if the weather remains it's -3 of the mornings.... twas -10 last saturday..... but I was in an Audi so I couldn't post it on here

Mine takes a while to, generally 7-8 miles down the road before any meaningful heat flows through...............

Sounds like due to some economising by Honda it it just a trait of the diesels.......

modern diesel engines are so effective that there is no excess heat whatsoever. at sub-zero degrees my transit connect van's temperature needle budges just after 10 km of driving and it'll be warm in the cabin a few km later.

My Petrol 1.8 is the best car I have ever had for heating. In this cold weather in the morning it takes less than half a mile before hot air is pumping out of the side and feet vents.
I set mine on 24 and the passenger on 21. It is an absolute delight to drive on a very cold day.

Well I must say mine warms up very nicely and considering I am leaving home in -10 conditions most mornings my car is relatively warm by the time I get to my destination with is 10 minutes down the road ( theoretically - if there wasn't a hugely disaterous set of traffic lights that have been set by satan himself to make stand there for 2minutes and a level crossing........

)

Don't waste your money on those ceramic car heaters on Ebay or Halfrauds, I bought one, waste of space, its pathetic dosn't give enough heat to warm the glove box let alone the car.

The diesel already has a ceramic heater, but as you have seen it doesn't do much.

The less efficient your engine, the quicker it heats up.
