We have to face the facts that we were early adopters of the car so we are going to be the people who find out what the problems are. I would love to know if all the problems reported above are from the older ones or from newer batches.
Absolutely. 'Buy early, buy trouble' has been the case since cars began. Problem is, attractive styling plus brilliant marketing make patience difficult...as of course they're designed to. Still, your sacrifice is not in vain. All those who buy later will reap the benefit. (Grrr) |

I'm not sure what to expect these days from a new car. It is true that we mention the bad points more than the good ones, and I am sure there are many happy owners, including myself.
You hear many stories of so-called superior marques with equally as many problems. I have friends who have had nightmares with BMWs, Audis and VWs (one was in summer in the centre of a city when the covertible roof stuck in a vertical position rendering it unmoveable without ripping it off ... had to chuckle), so maybe the majority of us are not so badly off. My other car is a Discovery, which actually completely broke down 4 times in the first 2 years. My previous car was a Laguna which spent more time with the dealer than it did with me, so at the moment I am happy (..... touch wood)!!! |

Thinks can only get better, well you would hope so. The problems I have fall into two camps, teathing troubles, and poor build quality. Teathing troubles are to be expected and with any luck will be fixed. Poor build quality reflects the quality of the workforce and working practices, this is not as easy to fix as you might think.

Hi PCR,
Yes, it's fairly easy to recognise but it can be intermittent as it seems as if the weather and other factors influence it. My rattles appeared to be high up the screen in the area of the rear view mirror so I suspected a loose fitting microphone or courtesy lamp bulb - something like that. I may have lived with it until it's 1st service due end of Jan next year, but it got so annoying I eventually bit the bullet and booked it in (not expecting the dealer to find the source). The rattle is quite loud compared to other creaking and fitting issues with the dash (which mine also has) and after a while it drives you mad!! The rattle is similar to having something in your luggage compartment rattling around - difficult to describe exactly what it sounds like. The dealer had the car ready by lunchtime as it was a 'known issue' on the Honda knowledgebase, so it was quickly sorted. KJ |

KJ,
Thanks for that. Like you. I was going to wait and see what transpired, but these dash noises are very irritating. Would love to see that Honda knowledgebase. Regards, pcr. |

Well the list grows and gets bigger and bigger and more irritating and more irritating!!
It would seem I've listed 15 so far, so here goes.... 16. Fuel cap now fixed three times - and is sticking again! (have been promised the new version this time). 17. One of the cable/strings holding the rear parcel shelf has snapped. 18. (and this nearly tops them all) - leak from boot, this was fixed a few weeks ago - but has now recurred with a vengance!! - the lower boot compartment is soaked with mold growing. 19. A climate control system that get's its cabin temp info from a sensor that gets warm after an hours drive, freezing you in the middle of winter despite having 23deg selected. Did I mention that the dash still squeeks???!!! And Honda UK just want to offer me £500 off my next Honda purchase! DO THEY REALLY THINK I'M GOING TO EVER BUY ANOTHER HONDA?????? So wished I'd have bought the new Seat Leon! Last edited by rhodgreen; 13th January 2007 at 04:53. |

I've now had my car for 2 weeks, and I have noticed 3 rattle areas:
1) Something in the dashbord around the instruments (daylight show my fingerprints where I have poked and proded!), 2) Around the glovebox, seems to go away when opened, but doesn't seem to be related to any of the articles in the glovebox, 3) Middle of the roof, happens with the blinds open and closed. All these are annoying, and I noticed them when listening to chat on the radio instead of music. When reversing off my drive I hear some "clicking" sounds from the back, then when I pull forward they happen again......sounds like something being wound up then unwinding. The dealer said they had checked the shocks. |

So far...
1) filler cap 2) Screeching drivers window 3) Creaking gearchanges 4) cabin rattles The cars going in the have the filler cap replaced on the 25th so I'll push the other issues. Dealer has been very helpful so far so I'm reasonably confident of getting everything sorted. I realise my list is very small compared to other users and I have nothing but sympathy! I hope everyone has a happy ending! |

1. Had recall for whatever it was recalled for
2. Fuelfiller 3. Has the most odd noises coming from many different parts of the car 4..... How many cars have you had...with or without minor faults that people have stopped you in a car park or petrol station and asked you tonnes of questions about it and then been so apreciative cos you've opened the drivers door and let them look at the helm of the ss enterprise. Come on guys lets keep it real |

Drive through a town during rush hour and see how many people in the other lanes have a good look, with pointing to show the others in their car what to look at!
It is damn annoying though when cars stop in front of the full length glass window where I was admiring the reflection (of the car, not me!). |

06 Build
- Petrol cap - twice, still not working - Intermiitent faults with the cruise control (dealer can't find any faults) - Rear suspension (should be fixed now - I wait with baited breath) - Gas cylinders for the boot - still waiting - Misaligned boot - paint scrapes now re-sprayed - Misaligned rear panel (the panel where the petrol cap is), dealer can't fix it - Misaligned bonnet - fixed - Tape on the edge of the drivers door coming loose - fixed - Slowly becoming a nightmare to get into first and change from second to third (Dealer says there is nothing wrong, my arms must be very weak) - Power steering problems - fixed How I wish I had bought a second hand car (not a Honda) and not new Civic! |

And the list grows...
21. Having now driven three courtesy cars in the last few weeks, I've noticed that since my power steering was "fixed" it's much stiffer - initally I thought it was just me, but since the dealer has had my car for nearly a fortnight I asked one of the senior guys to drive it and he has agreed! It actually affects the overall driving experience quite a lot! And just to mention that the boot leak it still an issue!! Now in for its fourth repair, boot trim being replaced again (as mouldy) - and all this despite the dealer telling Honda UK that they have done as much as possible last time and that a replacement car should be considered - Honda UK want to persue fixing it, leaving me in a smelly inferior courtesy car (I think I've now had six different cars in 2007). Nice to see the courtesy car also has it's driver side mudflap hanging off - someone obviously driven over the tinyest speed bump at very little speed!! Have to say that the car is a 56 plate - but the interior is so scratched in look over 5 years old!! So I'm now waiting for yet more parts to properly fix my rear window, my THIRD power steering EPS and for Honda to admitt that they do actually produce lemons and should do something about it. |

Mine is an 06 build (April / May) and has had a lot of problems.
1. Rear shocks - replaced 2. Filler cap - fix applied 3. Fix failed - whole new filler cap put in 4. Massive creak from the roof - roof welded as factory did not do it 5. General creak from the back from cold - went after lubing everything, now returned 6. Massive squeak from front left shock - replaced 7. Shake, rattle and roll from dash / front of car - 2 weeks in the dealer and still no resolution. I asked if 7 was the windscreen....it was not, they had tried that. The dealer are getting annoyed with Honda now....we both are. Still love the car though, great actual machine let down by really crappy build quality and a few early build glitches which I can forgive. Honda are gonna get killed in the JD Power survey when the 06-07 Civic is included. Anyone know if the new CRV (also 'built' in Swindon) has any problems?? The boys in Swindon did a good job on the previous Civic and CRV, what went wrong this time?? Edited to say, I feel for those of you whose list is longer than mine. Well, shock horror, I have just had a return phone call from HCS!
BUT - they're still sticking to their £500 off my next Honda - which as she reminded me was offered last May - despite (I would guess) half my problems occuring since then - so absolutely no compensation for the number of weeks I have been without my car, the time taken off work to go back and forth to the dealers and all the inconvenience caused. The simply don't care about us! Last edited by rhodgreen; 16th March 2007 at 15:45. |

I liked the new crv
I liked the new crv but i wouldn't buy one after the way honda have treated me
They just don't care fancy telling me that in some areas of the country the radio won't work the suspension is meant to be so hard that sometimes it is like driving a gocart i know the roads are crap but shouldn't of honda thought of that And the no zone climate control which they won't admit there is a problem so you always need a coat on But the brand new civics haven't got this problem they have working climate control I have been promised by honda that one of there techincal men would speak to my dealer but the outcome of that was we know nothing new but if your customer learns anything on the web let us know |
