Interesting... my wife told me today she spoke to the nhb civic owner we know outside my daughter's school and he has just had his recalled for EPS and rear shocks as well... nothing on mine yet and the dealership had already checked my chassis number with the list of rear shock issues a few months ago and I'm supposedly okay.
Is this EPS recall on petrols or diesels as well? |

The checking if the rear shock absorbers is not classed as a recall , its called a product update, PUD.
Any Civic that comes into a Dealer ( and most at the moment are in for eps recall , so its being done onthe back of this ) has its rear shock absorbers looked at to see if they are the "latest" type. If they are not found to be "countermeasure" equipment they are then replaced. |

I believe normally how it works is that Honda uk will have approached the DVLA with their request for a recall of a certain number of vehicles identyfied by their chassis number. The DVLA will then issue the Data to Huk ( registered owners addresses ) and a recall letter will then be sent out.
Either this or the dvla send the letter out, as they are obviously more than a bit wary of manufacturers wanting to know who's driving all their cars. I am also sure that any honda Dealer can punch your chassis number into Huk warranty system and see wether your car is awaiting the recall. If in any doubt just contact your Dealer. If you have recently moved etc etc and forget to contact a dealer or you sell your car on what normally happens is that the recall is then re-issued 6-months or a year or so later using more upto date info from DVLA. We are still seeing people coming in for a recall on 1996 accord seat belts that was first issued 2-3 years ago. Last edited by Nice; 1st December 2006 at 18:36. Reason: Added the last bit. |

The Definative Source For Recall Information
All safety critical recalls (for the UK) are posted on the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) website:
http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/default.asp As of today only one recall is listed for the Civic (Search criteria: Oct 2005 to Dec 2006/Honda/Civic): Vehicle Recall Details Reference : R/2006/154Manufacturer Ref : Make: HONDAModel : CIVICLaunch Date : 02/10/2006Numbers Involved : 3036 Build Start Date : 02/05/2006 Build End Date : 28/06/2006 DetailsConcern : ENGINE MAY CUT OUT AND OR FAIL TO START Description : It has been identified that the engine may fail to start, or may stall, and fail to restart. This situation is caused by the presence of water residue from the tank testing procedure, being left on the fuel pump wiring connector block. This situation can result in electrolytic corrosion of the connector terminals which may then break, thus interrupting the electrical supply to the fuel pump, with subsequent loss of fuel pressure. Remedial Action : Recalled vehicles will be checked for the presence of corrosion and or water on the fuel pump connector block. Should this situation be found, the fuel pump assembly will be replaced. Vehicle Id : ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++ Remit of VOSA (http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/rec...outrecalls.asp) ![]() VOLUNTARY RECALL SYSTEM Recall campaigns are launched and monitored as agreed in the various voluntary Codes of Practice formulated from discussions between the Department for Transport and representative bodies of the Motor Industry. These codes set out the guidelines on procedures for the recall of vehicles and components that have safety related defects, due to a feature of design or construction, and which are liable to cause significant risk of injury to the driver, occupants of the vehicle or other road users. The first code was introduced in 1979, (a link to this code is at the top of the page) and applies to all motor vehicles sold in Great Britain. A further six codes have been introduced since 1982, (details of which can be obtained direct from Vehicle Safety Branch) and cover the following: · Trailers under 3500kg GVW · Commercial Trailers 3500kg and over · Tyres, Wheels and Valves · Motorcycles · Parts and Accessories · Pedal Cycles. It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to inform the Vehicle Inspectorate when substantial evidence of a safety defect that requires remedial action, has been confirmed. Additionally, evidence may be presented to the manufacturer by the Vehicle Inspectorate as a result of investigations into accidents, and safety defects which have been brought to their attention from other sources.
