Thumbs up Creak above windscreen ** FIXED ** by dealer

Hello boys & girls,

I'd had a really bad creak from above the windscreen for months now, and it had been getting progressively worse.

Anyway, back to the dealers she went, stayed all day. Got the car back and it's fine, no creak.

Apparently there are a number of locating clips on the top of the windscreen that the robots in the factory use when assembling the car, that are left on during the build but are completely non-essential. The dealer has to drop the roof lining and snap off these clips, and this sorts the problem. Removing all of the trim is the time consuming part!

Damian - excellent news. A few people have had this done, but only some dealers seem to know about the fix. Glad it has worked out well for you!

Mines just started creaking at the bottom of the windscreen/middle dash area.

This as well as a number of squeaks that have made their presence noticed as I passed the 12K mark are dissappointing - my car is going to be in for a long service.

Looks like a visit to the dealers for you Miggins.

If there's one thing that I really hate about NEW cars, it's rattles and squeeks! It bugs the hell out of me.

I still have a bit of a clunk coming out of the supsension somewhere...... Grrr....

Counting down the hours now........ 185bhp on the way!

my glass roof and the top of the windscreen are creaking like you wouldn't believe (well you probably would actually), they had a look today and want it back next week to put more clips in to sort it out.

My dealer took the clips out to stop my creaks. Which it did for a few days, but they are now back, albeit less frequently.

Mine has started creaking from the dash or bottom of the windscreen over the last few days (3000 miles on the clock). I also have condensation on the inside over the VIN number. While it was in yesterday for the fuel cap fixing they looked at this. When I picked the car up they said the recommendation from Honda is to remove the windscreen for further investigations. This seems a drastic measure for dashboard creaks and suggests to me that Honda are aware of a fundamental problem in this area. Car is booked in for 2 to 3 days work.

There do seem to be several members reporting windscreen replacement. It concerns me because I believe dealers will use a local specialist company to carry out the work and I have no confidence in these companys to do a good job. I've had too many bad experiences with them.

I would think the only reasons to replace a good screen are bad sealing or misalignment, both of which must be detectable without removing the screen.

as it is w

I would find that hard to beleive - the Honda mechanics in our
dealerships are top notch and would think they would to the work themselves especially warranty work

Well, for certain, the dealer I use, uses a local body shop and a local glass specialist, not Honda. So also does the Toyota dealer.

This is the case for most dealers - very few do their own bodywork and I doubt any will do windscreens - cheaper and easier to sub contract to a specialist who 'should know what they are doing' - mmmmmmmmm

As before - insist on a genuine screen if it needs replacing - for whatever reason

Well our dealer has three Honda franchises (along with other Manufacturer franchises) and it has it's own bodyshop so any work required on our car should be top notch No excuses

I got a new screen, it has a Honda and a Pilkington logo on the glass. I know it was fitted by a glass specialist, but there was some debris from the dash (trimmings?) in the car and some sticky whice caulk or gunk round the frame on the outside...

Yes, the car is great. What a difference the fixing of an irritation makes. I liked the car when it had a few problems, but now it is back to full health, it is simply a great. I just want to be in all the time.

I was a little worried about the sensors for the headlights and wipers being part of the screen, but it is all fine.

Bungle,
I bet your pleased about that. I need to get mine sorted but am taking a break from visiting the dealer for a while. I don't know whether it''s going to be the clips or the screen, or something else.

got car back today after them having it for two days, creaking from the roof has gone but the creaking from the top of the windscreen is still there, might just wait until something else goes wrong and get it all done at the same time, (theres only so much driving around in a jazz one can do after the power of the civic)

Apparently roof was taken out, stronger clips put in along with some packing stuff, i have my suspicions that the windscreen hasn't even been looked at
