I think the condensation between perspex and glass at the rear won't be a problem for most owners, unless we all start getting things growing there!! I did with a part of the tailgate on my old Jazz. It could be cleaned out though (with difficulty). I think with the Civic, it'll be impossible. Still, not a concern for me at the mo. But as I say, I may feel differently a year or two down the line!

I have just looked at the condesation in my light fittings again, and they are getting a build up of small bits of leaves and blossom (from my winter flowering tree) I cant get to them and it looks like soft brown mud!!!!

Great - a couple of years build up of that in the lights and it will look a real treat

An update, I've swapped my car due to this (and surrounding issues).

Honda have said throughout that this is a characteristic and there is nothing they can do. When asking them to confirm this in writing (as a pre-cursor to legal action) they backed down on this and said they had talked to "technical" again and there were a few things they could have tried to see if this helped.

They didn't go in to detail as I'd already bought the Type R but it might be worth pushing this, if you, like me, don't like a car widths worth of condensation on your rear windscreen.

This will affect the resale value, trust me!

Seems to me they have addressed many of the design faults on the Civic with the Type R.

I spent an hour at the local Volkswagen dealers yesterday looking at the Golf an Golf Plus

Definitely, it just feels a lot better built than my old car. Can't find anything wrong with it (bar a wonky rear numberplate which is being replaced

My car has the same problem. Currently have not seen any other symptons execpt the visual (no leaking, cracking) . It has been very cold here (-28C), but now might be the most critical weather, when it is +5 during the day and -5 during the night. So if this will create any mechanical or leaking problems, they should be visible before may.

mine has the same. Unfortunately they replaced it recently ( not for this error but due to damage to it) and now 2 weeks ago I had 2 cm water in the boot. They tried to replace it again last week and still water leaking so I brought it back in again today. To make it even worse, the glue they used turned out all white so now instead of only condensation I have a white stripe all along.

ive got same problem with condensation i have had this problem for over 1 year now. car been in garage 7 times. last couple of times they have kept it for 1 week at a time. seals have been replaced. window been replaced, now i have got condensation on back window and when it is really cold i have thick ice inside back window. just got car back the morning after 1 week in garage. been told they are 99% sure it is fixed now. will just need to wait and see when it rains. my problems started with water in the boot so check in the conceled bit inside boot round the edges to see if it is wet.

Janice,
When that thick soundproofing felt gets waterlogged, it will take for ever to dry out on it's own accord. I would ask the dealer to remove it all so you can see all the metal is dry. Use the car like that to see if the condensation has gone. Make sure the felt, etc, is bone dry before refitting.

While it is clearly wrong making a car too hermetic, any modern automotive soundproofing should be hydrophobic, i.e. it should not take up water

I just checked my car for this strip of condensation. I have only done 250 miles so was surprised to find the white line of condensation the entire width of the rear window. It has been wet recently so I will see if it dries out when warmer and drier. Has anyone tried drying it with a hair dryer?

However as long as no water goes in my boot I can live with it. I have found on previous cars that once body shops start taking things apart they create more new leaks than the original leaks they fix at the 5th attempt.

I'm having a bit of difficulty comprehending the exact location of this "Strip" but as I understand it (based on the location of the i-VTEC sticker in the pics) this rubber strip is hidden by the spoiler on the Type-R, yes?

On a side note, I have noticed condensation under the little window on the windscreen where the VIN is shown. Anyone else seen this?

You probably have to live in a country where there is non stop rain! I wouldn't waste your beautiful summer looking for condensation!

Have you read the results of autoexpress, the civic is at 15 down from previous 4 mainly due I think to its build quality .I do wonder if it had been made in japan would things be a lot better! My previous honda 98 model(made in japan) was far superior, just pleased I use an understanding dealer to sort out my problems such as petrol cap ,door handle, seat cover,i shift, I am yet to get them to look at the misalignment of offside plastic sill, and it carries on!!!!!!!!!
