both - re ride quality.

few points:
mine, at 11,500 miles is still fine
yours, I'm guessing, started off fine, but is not fine anymore?

Adding these 2 bits together would indicate (to me at least) that this is not therefore a design fault, but something that has worn out / come loose / leaked or whatever.

Take em down to your respective dlrs and let em have a look - hopefully you'll be driving in comfort again soon

I taken Mine

I have taken mine back to the dealer he has road tested it at first his comments were its a pretty awful ride

When it went in for some work it came back with the comment its the same as other civics

Mine has got a lot worse since it was new if it was this bad when I bought it I would of taken it back

Now I know the suspension is a little harder than some cars but the rattles and clonks from the front and rear are pretty bad

When mine goes back in next Wednesday I need them to see where the rumble is coming from, when I go out my driveway or over speed bumps there is a knocking coming from what seems to be the front and of I drove over a bumpy service (car parks are the worst) it sould like there is something loose (possible exhaust area), anyway I am devising a list of problems for next week.

Off topic but after driving the courtesy car for a week I also didnt realise how tight my handbrake is to pull up!!

I test drove my car with the mechanic and pointed out the bangs from the back and the sqeuks etc from the from - result was he replaced all the shockers and not had a problem since - however I've only done 5k.

The front right has been replaced at only 1300 miles. The rears are loud compared to the new front. Loud.. as in you can hear it from outside. To cap it all the inner trim in the engine bay was damaged and put back in with completely wasted fittings. The final point is that in the whole process the paint has been scratched/chipped during the removal of the inner wing trim.

Add this to the HRW switch being incorrecty fitted meant that the car had it's first complaint visit at less than 100 miles.

It's supposed to be an 07 build...so what did they change?

I thought it was just the VW chaps that were incapable.

Had all my shocks replaced at 13K - no quibbles. Now drives like a dream. (wish I could find my original post to save my fingers!!!)

Found it - but couldn't link

My struts have only been replaced with the oem parts under warranty and they have improved the handling no end (I'd like to think everybody elses weren't as bad as mine!). I also no longer have the thumping from the rear but may still have some noise from the front. The roll in corners is controlled much better and not as pronounced - still give it a few more weeks and they'll be as bad as the boot struts!!!

my suspension makes funny noises at the front, but ive traced it to a full or nearly full fuel tank. when the tank is half or below then all is ok.

its the diesel sloping around and it sounds like the suspension.
weird i know, but see if you have different noises with a full or half full tank before getting all the suspension changed.

Having spoken to the Dealer, the bottom line is that any replacement part will be the same version/part number as was built with the car as it is an 07 build. So the shock that was very "thuddy" was deemed to be a failure. As it's got 18" storms it makes the already hard suspension take more of a pounding, therefore producing what we all say is a thud.

Under the Sale Of Goods act: - If a consumer chooses to request a repair or replacement, then for the first six months after the purchase it will be for the retailer to prove the goods did not conform to contract (e.g. were not inherently faulty).

The dealer has agreed that a test drive can be done to point out the "thud". After which, based on the SOG act, I would be within my rights to have the other 3 shocks replaced. BUT is it going to change anything? most likely not IMO as it's unlikely that all 4 shocks have failed within so few mles. It's difficult to say how quiet the suspension was on day 1 and if it's degraded since.

Oh no you wouldn't....

I HAD an Accord... had pretty much the same thing with it on and off - and the worst thing was, on fast roads, the back end seemed to be REALLY floaty or detached. I know for sure the shocks weren't gone, cos I had them checked.

My Civ also creaks a little, cold or not, over high ridges and speed bumps, and there's been a curious "knocking" from around the rear end (of the car you mucky sods!) - almost as if its the suspension "settling" - I do park it with one side on the (rather low) kerb..... Or it could be the boot settling on its seals I guess... even stones in the brakes.... even.... even... ALL OF THAT....

But yeah, its annoying how little things can detract from making a car GOOD to GREAT. Even the sun visor creaks/rattles and THAT does p*ss me off no end. I don't do rattles.

Mine was looked at this week and they told me they cant find anything wrong, so we have agreed that when we both have the time (and I have my car) we will go for a bumpy road drive so they can hear it

Of course I could just bring them to my house and drive of the driveway that always produces a knocking sound.

Such a pain in the A - different dealers all act and interpret issues differently. When mine played up, I just said it bumped and clumped at the rear when coming off the drive and a similar noise when driving on from the front. They replaced the full set without any quibbles and my car wasn't even on the list of affected vehicles.

How's everybody with front suspension squeaks? All sorted out? Got my car last friday, went today back to the dealer to cure annoying squeak from front right suspension area. This and that lubricated but the damned noise is still there. Could it really be the shock absorber?
Not the best possible start with my Civic.... I should be enjoying my new car now, not scheduling service appointments .

Well, finally had the front left strut replaced, which has fixed the noise. Now need to start the whole process again for the front right strut which is squeaking away.

Also, predictably, handles slightly differently round left handers than right.

Ok... I'm not so familiar with mechanical English but strut is name for the complete shock absorber and spring assembly, right? I thought those are always replaced from both sides. Do you know what is wrong with them anyway? The brand of the shocks is Sachs (if I remember correctly), well known brand isn't it?

Both front struts replaced at first service, (9000 miles) . I had complained of knocking noises from rear also , and my dealer tells me that my rear springs had been assembled upside down on the struts !!!!.
The ride is much improved , (still jiggly, but tolerable).

Hi Pottsy

Why didn'y they replace both dampers. I know the car is still fairley new, but can effect the handling as you are now finding out.

Mike - it would seem, from posts in here, that the first umpty ump thousand Civics were sent out with upside down springs at the back, so you're not alone

I think that someone has now gone to the work station where this is done, and turned the instruction sheet the right way up

The slightly worrying thing will be when our Civics start to go in for 2nd service and the technicians go "ahhh right - '06 Civic, need to turn the springs over!" LOL

I took the car back today to demonstrate the fact that the right damper has now failed as well. I talked about this, and they stated that Honda will not replace opposite dampers when one fails, despite the fact that it is wise to do so.

I'm now waiting for parts, again, hopefully it will be quicker than the several weeks of last time!
