A recall for this should be a brave move from honda that would prove that they respect their customers...if they do so

But they dont care! Many of the car's problems are labelled as charateristics by Honda and we are expected to put up with it.

If my car comes back still clonking I will live with it at least if its been checked I know it cant be anything dangerous.

Hi Topcat

You shouldn't be getting a clonk from the rear suspension, well not a loud one. What did the road test show up? Two honda dealers have said to me that the rear suspension fault has been rectified. The problem was wrong hydraulic fluid in the shock.

No I know I shouldnt

But one of them at Ruislip has heard it and agrees there is a problem but they dont know what!!! Typical!

The car is still with them so hopefully they may sort it.

Hi Topcat

I was at Ruislip Honda today. I didn't see your car. I had to buy a new door mirror cover. They showed me how to fit it. It just snaps off and you snap the new one in place. I can't believe they wont change your shock absorber, I am confused.

Angry suspension problems

My cars is a 06 plate I've had suspension problems too, Honda seemed to be guessing what the problem was I've had 2 front struts, 2 CV joints and 2 front bushes ,my car was in and out of the garage for weeks.the noises did stop but only for about a mouth drove over a speed bump and its back again, been the same for about 4 months, ijust cant be bothered with the hassle all over again, but for £19.500 and after reading that other people have the same problems its going back in tomorro.

The front suspension squeaks and noises are still there.
Everyone i know with a civic -even 07 like mine- have the same problem with the front suspension...I think that i must learn to live with it...
Come on Honda...it's time for a recall and a permanent fix...

Dont worry, after 21k km's the front clonk is completely gone. Now it's been replaced with a nice squeak / whine when turning the wheels when the car is stationary or after a short pause from driving. This only happens once or twice when turning after the car has been parked for 5-15 minutes. After couple of squeaks the sounds disapear

Mine was doing this all over the weekend, only noticed it because I had the mother in law in the car so the radio was off, mine did not go, has been there for 2 days. Also noticed after parking for a while the first movement of the suspension seems to be accompanied with a thid from the front left. Also had a funny experience going over a hump in the road, the front left made a "doing" sound, like a cartoon spring, only once, and at 10mph.

Gonna ring stealer now!

Edit: Rung stealer, apparantly there are a lot of things around the front of the car that could make that sort of noise, will get a technician to come out for a drive with me and have a listen. Shouldn't read what websites say as there are a few things could be causing that, unlikely we all have the same problem. Guarantte I can't replicate the problem when with stealer.

Try sticking your finger through the front spring then gently pull the rubber gaiter around the strut downwards if the yellow rubber ball at the top of the gaiter pulss down the bump stop has come away from the strut.
The yellow ball should not move.

Then tell your dealer that the bump stop has come loose, its a known fault, and the only way to fix it permanently it to replace the strut, driving over a small pot hole will make the suspect front strut clunk loudly, or coming off the back of a speed cushion (wide speed bump).
If one of your bump stops is loose, and the dealer agrees to change, it might be an idea to pull the other one off, otherwise they will only change the one strut, not a good idea if you have more than 5000 miles.

Fantastic slowhand!! Now I wonder what the dealer will say, it was making this noise when it was in for its last service, do you think there is a safety issue, perhaps they should have picked this up??

Just got back from dealer, apparantly just cos the bump stop is loose they would not just replace anything, you need to have the bump/knock, when questioned as to why they missed it at the service I was told just that I had not specified which side was bumping so they saw the loose bump stop but did nothing (yeah right!).

They will order the new strut but will only replace one, they never replace them in pairs.

i did a check on my car's front right suspension yesterday and i found out that the bump stop has come away from the strut...Thanks for the information you shared...my dealer must see this. I think that this is the cause of the strange noises...honda must make a fix on it...

Having had the front left damper replaced, then the front right, the squeaking came back. I now have just had both front strut and spring assemblies replaced. The squeaking and groaning has totally gone - and things look a bit different too. The yellow bump stop is much more visible - maybe I have a modified strut...

All in all very happy - silent front suspension is a major boon.

Mine started to squeak yesterday following a particularly heavy downpour. Gets replaced on 30th, although the noise seems to be getting worse.

Mine too was wetness related. After a long dry spell, the squeaking almost stopped. Quick bit of rain and it was squeaking at full volume again.

Shock's on these car's seem to be a right pain, only had my car since June, last week had two front shocks fitted due to knocking over speed humps, OK for two days now back again and now the near side rear has started to make the same sound. Must admit nice looking cars but I have had so many problems with mine that I am starting to loose my patients with car. Surely with so many shock problems Honda should have sorted this out a long time ago!

Sorry to say, I have no confidence that Honda will ever sort these shocks out and they're going to cost plenty when the warranty runs out.
