Hmmmmm over the last few days I have had a definate "rumbling" sound on bumpy roads I can't quite work out if its coming from the front or back or both)!!

It cant be the shocks - How can they go so quickly I have only done 6000 miles and when the first generation of Civics hit the road I thought it was a certain batch of shocks that had caused a problem and Honda dealt with it.

Mine was in for the same thing yesterday.

It seems to have been cured as I set off this morning in peace (well with a smidge of diesel clatter) after the car had been standing all night in the cold. Usually we get a clunk as we reverse from the drive, down the kerb and onto the road.

There is a Honda bulletin relating to rear springs that were installed upside down at the factory on 06 Civics. Maybe worth checking with your dealers.

Leicesterminiracer,

Just got my car back after it's 1st service and was told I already have the 'fixed' batch of rear shocks fitted, so Honda wouldn't let them replace them again under warranty, yet I still get a rumble when I reverse the car off my drive in the morning. I was a bit peeved after being told when I booked it in that I had had a faulty batch fitted the 1st time they were replaced and would have new (properly modded) ones fitted yesterday.

Cheers,
KJ

KJ,
This is what the warranty means to me. If the dealer agrees there is a fault and it can be fixed, then it must be fixed. The fact that it has been fixed previously or the faulty batch numbers don't tally is not your problem.

I had this problem and the dealer actually solved it! The noise was a creaking, rumbling noise for the first 30 seconds or so of driving. It turned out to be a combination of the exhaust mounts rubbing or something, they lubed it all and it has not returned in a month now.

Problem solved, unlike the front shock squeak....broken for the second time filler cap.....terrible trim, dash, windscreen rattles / creaks / groans.

My car is turning citrus. I will be turning purple and angry pretty soon.

i have a noise from the back of my type-s, only had it a week and a half - i suspect it either the boot liner, the parcel shelf or the trim round the rear window.

could even be the rear seatbelt - not had chance to investigate, only get the noise on choppy road surfaces and when turning anything more than about 45 degrees left, sound comes from the rear right somewhere.

Only noticed it tonight, will have a look in the light in the morning!!

PAS, shocks, filler cap & rear lights!

I had a letter from Honda saying that my car had been recalled for the power stearing and rear shocks. Took it in to the dealer, they had it for 2 hours, tested the power stearing, it passed, checked out the rear shocks, I need 2 new ones. I also asked them to look the fuel filler cap, they are going to get me a new unit. I also said that both rear lights were fogging up, they had to take pictures to prove to Honda. I am also having both rear light units replaced. Although these are faults, I have received very good service from Honda and I am very pleased overall with the car. The car will be in for a day but they will be lending me a car for the day.

Had my first service last week, asked them to sort the usual rattle out. They came up with a new one - said they were fitted upside down, so they'd changed them over! Made no difference at all, still the same noise reversing down the drive. Obviously a feature.

Initial Noise At The Rear On Moving Off

A thought worth considering.............

I have this initial creaking noise as well and as like most of you I have had the shocks checked and given the all clear. What I have noticed though is that the rear hatch on opening has occasionally made loud creaking noises (worse when the car is in the sun or extreme cold - expansion of materials?) and it may be worth considering if this noise is the hatch initially moving in it's hinges to realign as the car moves off.

Me Too! I also get the 5 seconds of rumbling creaks reversing out of the drive. Mine's had the rear suspension replaced and its due in for an EPS recall soon and a suspension recheck, oh... and hopefully a proper fix for the fuel cap!

I also experience this on my 07 Civic, especially with more people in the car.
I was told by the dealer this problem is caused by one rear spring that has been mounted upside down. Nothing to be worried about, but should be taken care of at next inspection.
