no difference
The software update has made no difference
the car needs an aerial conected to the radio to work The rattles are a lot better apart from the windscreen one the climate control after 1 hour turned up to 25 was still blowing cold air Last edited by geoff; 25th February 2007 at 20:42. |

I would have thought that the aerial wire that must run through the car to the back window could be intercepted and fed to a rear top mounted aerial like most other cars seem to have ?

Yes
Yes you would of thought so but honda don't give a Toss
they are so big and powerful and they think people who have minor faults (in there words) major faults I call them can just be ignored Having a working radio is something I have always had and when I was an agency driver if they gave me a lorry with a non working radio I would refuse to drive it Now I have bought a car from Honda that in certain parts of the country you cannot listen to radio two and other local radio stations. And before everybody tells me there radio is fine I know that But I have never had this problem with the old model loan civic and many other cars in my local area |

Right .... as this is my thread about my saga, here is an update!
The car goes back in on Monday to fix the creaks / dash / windscreen or whatever is causing the constant noise going over bumps. Since they fixed the suspension it is much better riding and this has reduced the number of creaks etc. However people talking about the windscreen and clips and what have you, well the boys in Cheltenham will have my car for 3 days to fix it and I will be taking their hire car to the smoke for work. Will they continue their sterling work to rebuild my car to the standard the dullards in Swindon did not? Stay tuned....back on Wednesday night / Thursday day! |

Right.....well the update as it is stands is this. The guys at the garage have had my car now since last Monday and have advised me that we shall speak again on Friday this week. So 2 weeks.....and still with no resolution for the squeaking / creaking and shaking dash / windscreen / plutonium flugelbinder etc.
They have taken the dash to bits and have been in touch with the factory day after day trying new things. I have reached the point (and I think them too, and poor old Dave the mechanic) where Honda have to put up or shut up. My dealer and I have wasted over 6 weeks now fixing and repairing and replacing bits of the car that the factory did not make correctly and we want it sorted. New dash.....new car, I mean it is getting beyond a joke. The dealer have been great and are really making an effort on my behalf. Any advice?? |

The garage has called again.....still not done. Dave is trying every little thing that the factory and customer services are advising. Well to be honest it has gone too far. I am now getting the service manager and ops director of Amethyst involved. I have been told that under warranty dealers get paid for resolving an issue and the labour done to solve that issue. Not to diagnose....so with my wobbly, rattly and frankly cruddy dash having taken a mechanic 2 weeks and rising *unpaid by Honda* surely Amethyst will be concerned enough to apply pressue to the factory to get someone up to Cheltenham (all of 30 miles FFS) or take the car back to be sorted.
I am starting to get angry.....but with Honda not Amethyst. At the end of the day I am putting the miles on someone elses car not mine. |

Okay...Amethyst called back, Honda will not send someone down until every possible thing has been tried.
Here was the latest thing to check.... engine subframe. I kid you not. So Dave checks the engine subframe and founds the bolts have been threaded.....causing some movement that should not be there. There are not sure how this happened, either a numpty in Swindon over torquing the bolts during assembly or perhaps the extra stresses on the car when the suspension broke...... needless to say they are now replacing the rear engine subframe. Now my discussion with Jonathan the service manager was interesting, he was not sure of the effects this would have either. Now I would have thought that a damaged subframe would show up in vibration through the pedals or gear lever but my car has been sowing machine smooth. However the noise from the dash could be described as a kind of shaking .... that could be coming from an engine that is moving around when it shouldn't. Hence why it only happens on rough roads and surfaces. They are replacing the subframe so lets see what happens. Anyone else had subframe problems? |

Seems like your on your own with this one Cheltenhamshire. I must say, I admire your tolerance, to me the idea of replacing the engine subframe to fix a creak doesn't bear thinking about. Good luck.

Okay....the guys replaced the engine subframe.....and it did not solve the shake, rattle and roll from the dash. So Amethyst have had my car a month now. Dave the technician rang yesterday and we were having a good chat, it is not the windscreen as that has been checked.....but he is running out of things to check. The sooner Honda admit this car is a turkey and get their backsides 30 miles up the road to Cheltenham the better.
The scary thing is.....Dave has heard the same shake / rattle & roll dash noises from a couple of other cars too.....but they have not complained. The reason, deafness and old age it would seem. Being a demanding 33 year old who does not like to spend £16k on a car that rattles worse than his wife's £4k Citroen C3 kind of makes me a special case ..... !!! So I am still stuck in the 1.4 Civic which does not have awful rattles and shakes....but I have done nearly 2000 miles this month. This is turning into a joke! |

It would seem so Geoff. Mine has had 2 faults like everyone elses in the rear shocks and fuel filler cap issue. All of the other problems have been down to poor assembly, the roof not being welded, the rattling seat belt holder, the front shocks that fell apart, the dash being totally f*cked and the engine subframe bolts threading themselves.
Really poor show from Honda, Amethyst doing me proud. I will never buy a british made Honda ever again. It is no wonder the UK has very little industry anymore with the slack attitude to doing their jobs, put them on the dole and ship the factory over to where they have some pride in their work. |

Okay....latest update on week 5!!! The dash has been removed altogether.....but still not the cause of the shaking. It has now been isolated to the steering column. A new one has been ordered, should be fitted on Wednesday. Dave is not sure what is causing the shaking / rattle from the steering column but hopes to know upon replacing the part.
I will have a new car by the time this is sorted......in terms of new bits fitted! What a joke!! Still, cheers again Dave for the hard work....I do hope this is it sorted. |

Well it is now the following Sunday....it was not sorted on Wednesday, altough I did visit Dave at the dealer and took a drive out in the car (minus its dash) to have a 2nd pair of ears listen. Not only did we get the shaking noise that may or may not be the steering column we also got a noise that was coming from the windscreen which is going to be refitted to see if a failing bonding around the screen is causing that one. With the dash removed Dave also showed me that 1 of the 3 mounting rods that hold the dash up was minus most of its rubber gromet....another potential source of rattles solved.
It is going from bad to worse, if I have to do another journey to London on Thursday in this bloody 1.4 I am going to write a strongly worded letter to Honda, Watchdog and What Car. I have had enough.....Honda, I come to you to have a reliable car. In fact this is the worst I have ever owned. What the hell do I try next, German cars....crap quality and crap dealers, Italian....not bad quality, truly the worst dealers....English, do not even go there...... Korean??? |

Right.....I now have a new 2007 Civic.....courtesy car as the dealer sold the other courtesy car I had! I have a black 1.4 SE with 5 miles. It has now done 300 (in 4 days) and is great. Shame it is a 1.4 and does not belong to me, no squeaks, rattles or things that don't work.
Back to my lemon, well I went I popped in this morning to get my sunglasses from my car and check on the progress of rebonding the windscreen (which Dave had shown me with the screen removed that there was not a uniform application of adhesive which caused the noise) and replacement of the steering column. Well good news is the screen does not make any noise now....as for the shaking rattle from somewhere .... well it is still there..... so not the steering column at all. WTF are Honda playing at??? Dave (head mechanic at Amethyst in Cheltenham) and Jonathan (service manager for Amethyst Cheltenham) now are stumped. Well will Honda get their lazy arses up from Swindon to fix this lemon of a car that has spend over 9 weeks in the dealer workshop having shoddy build recitifed and failed components replaced? I am now seriously f*cked off. Jonthan is going to provide me with the 3 names I need, the boss of Amethyst (Roger Moore no less!) to thank him for his teams efforts, I have never dealt with a dealer as good as them before, and also the names of the head of Honda customer service and head of Honda UK. I want techies from Swindon up to fix it or I want a new car. This car has been a total pile of sh*t and it is not on. Any advice?? |
