When did you buy it? I wouldn't want a car that has had that much work done on it, let alone one that I bought new. Good luck dude, you need some! |

May 15th 2006. The pile of sh*t is not even a year old......
Well I will let you know how I get on with Honda but having read some of the tales on here I imagine I will get nowhere. Although having said that I do remember when my Punto HGT (2 years old and with 44,000 miles) some kind of belt snapped which then threw the cambelt off destroying the engine (in the days of a 1 year warranty) .... and I did not pay a penny to repair that due to a well worded letter to Fiat customer services so who knows. Needless to say after getting the Fiat fixed I flogged it. Tempted to do the same here. |

Believe me I know how annoying it is, all I can say is good luck with your complaining to Honda UK it seems to me they pick names out of a hat as to who they will respond to judging by some of the posts on this forum
Good Luck. |

Well the letters have been posted to Ken Keir (boss of Honda UK) and also to Roger Moore the head of Amethyst.
I guess nothing will happen but I have threatened them with WhatCar and Watchdog should they desire some negative publicity rather than just fixing this bucket of bolts. |

I have threatened Watchdog and What Car, I even contacted What Car, my solicitor threatened Court action and media publicity - they simply do not care what threats they receive it seems. |

But what were your problems?? I mean I have a list that is longer than 95% of people on this board and have had more time off the road.
Some people on here have gone overboard whinging about things that really Honda can do nothing about other than design better units for the future (such as the climate control and radio complaints) but my problems have been very real and involve a badly built car and poor service in trying to get it fixed. So sometimes these companies will ignore people who they see as making an issue out of something that is not really a problem. I think Pottsy had a pretty big problem with the engine and got a decent response. Like I say, I do not know what problems you have complained to them about but needless to say, I am a pretty horrible person to get on the wrong side of so hopefully it will not come to that. I have been very patient with this car so far but I have had enough now. Last edited by Cheltenhamshire; 16th April 2007 at 13:30. Reason: bad grammar! |

Hmmm, I sent you a pm about who to write to trying to help you as I more than most understand what you must be going through. All I can say is, do you really think I would have appointed a solicitor and indeed would a solicitor get involved if my car problems were the result of just "whinging" ? I wish you luck. |

Not at all!
Like I say, I do not know what your problems are and I would like to know to see if I am as likely to get ignored as you!!! By 'some people' I am not talking about you, but when we have threads on here of 10 pages about how someone is sending letters to the President of Honda in Japan because his radio does not have great reception or because he was ignored in a showroom I do wonder!!! I need luck, and thankyou for giving me some and Ken's name!! |

I wish you every luck in getting a replacement out of HUK. I think anything other than a new for not-so-new replacement would be seriously short of what any manufacturer should offer given your circumstances. Don't forget to follow through on those threats of going to the press. In fact, now is surely a good time to do so. They will then hopefully sort you out as a matter of damage limitation rather than just waiting to see if you will go to the press. The action can be used as a lever rather than a last resort. |

Well I have not put any deadlines in the letters.....so I will give them a week and then off the info will go to WhatCar and Watchdog, which of course can be submitted by email!
I too am happy with the patience I have shown, but the fact is the dealer has smoothed over the cracks in that they have given me a car and are not fobbing me off. It is Honda fobbing them off just as much as they are fobbing me off. Amethyst are a very good dealership....but I will never buy anything from Swindon ever again. |

You are the customer, & the dealer sold you a car that went a glorious shade of lemon. Surely Amethyst should supply you with the replacement & claim that back from HUK. You have incredible restraint. |

This is where talking to the mechanics comes in! Dave is the head of the workshop and they do not actually get paid for warranty work until the problem is resolved. So they have spent over 6 weeks trying to fix this infernal shaking and I have been in their car for 6 weeks and they have not recieved a penny yet from Honda.
This is why I know that Amethyst have been good and that Honda are really sucking arse at the moment. |

If it went that far (which somehow I doubt, what is cheaper...actually dispatching a grease monkey from Swindon 30 miles up the road or a new car!) I am sure Amethyst would be compensated. However it will not go that far, they will have to fix the thing. I am sure it is not a major problem, it is just a shaking rattle noise that comes from somewhere under the dash when traversing bumps (i.e. all roads in Gloucestershire!) which despite all of the work has still not gone.
At the end of the day the problem makes the car sounds like it has done over 100,000 miles....it feels loose and broken! The rest of the problems have been fixed, and I am sure that will be the end of it...I am finding the fact that is has gone this far to be the biggest annoyance. |

Your problem started as shaking rattle noise but I would say you now have a greater issue. A car that has been stripped & rebuilt so often that I would doubt it is worth its proper value to anybody who knows its history. HUK rub salt in your wounds; Amethyst make a bunch of cash for the regular garage work they are doing for you; you get to drive a lower spec Civic & still long to get your hands on what you bought. Sickening. |

Right....another update. It is both good and c'est typical.
The good first.....Dave has now changed the steering rack and the shaky noise has gone! So it was the steering rack.....but there is no word whether this is just another example of shoddy build or whether the broken shock absorber putting stress onto other components caused it to become damaged. Who knows...... Anyway....the c'est typical is of course I have not had any kind of response from Honda. So I will get my car back on Saturday morning after 7 weeks and 2500 miles in a courtesy car. I am sure I will be happy to have my car again but I do not know what I am going to do with it in 2 years....I think it will be handed back and the PCP difference used to get a japanese Honda. |
