After the brief period of working I shift the faults have re-occured again.
Matter reffered to Honda who refuse (at present to change the car). I'm not driving it again untill matter can be resolved. I'm now collecting evidence of similiar faults ( if i can find any?) for a DEKRA vehicle inspection to see what they make of it. If you have or know anyone with anything similiar to below, please let me know. 1 Applying foot break when stopping, revs go to virtual stall then recover & overshoot, somethimes "driving" the car along aginst the brakes. 2 When accelerating (most noticeable on a dual carriage way or away from a roundabout) car changes gear & noticably looses speed ( upto 10mph) 3 when coming to a stop at a junction & pulling off again without car actually stopping, car is still in too high a gear & deos not respond by selecting a low enough gear causing shuddering & poor acceleration. 4 when in slow moving traffic (crawling) for some time accelarator gets snatchy as though too much play or in system and also "kangaroos" occasionally. Changing up the gears is fine & nice & smooth, problems are mainly when car changes down. All help comments greatly appreciated. |

Hi NG Civic
I have a 1.8 ex ishift and do not have the problems you have with yours. I do not have any complaints at all. If you drive in manual mode is everything ok.I would take it to the dealer and tell them to get it sorted. |

The i-Shift seems to need a learning curvel in getting the performance that an auto promises.
Millie performs nigh on perfect for me. Millie was sluggish in the box the other morning, but it was very cold and I assumed that as it didn't reappear it was the gearbox oils being a bit chilly. "If you decide that you are indesicive, which one are you?" Charles H. |

i-shift problems
I bought a new Civic with i-shift approx 6 weeks ago. After approx 3 weeks and 800 miles a major intermittent fault developed with the i-shift - it changed into neutral of its own accord and then locked in neutral. The only way to get it out of neutral was to switch off the engine and start again. The car has been with the local Hondal dealer now for approx 3 weeks and despite contacting Honda technical support they have not cured the fault.
To the credit of the dealer they have agreed to swap the car for a new one. I have decided to get a manual diesel as I have no confidence whatsoever in the i-shift. When it worked it was extremely jerky in auto mode, and on changing up there was a pause when the engine lost power. If you tried to drive it hard then the auto clutch slipped and it simply revved without delivering power to the wheels. In manual mode it was better but overall I would not recommend the i-shift to anyone. I don't believe for one moment that my problems are unique and would welcome any further comments. |

Brand new ? Certainly we have had no issues with our car as yet although it is one of the first car with the upgraded software - yes it is jerky if you accelarate hard but there is enough power in the engine to avoid hard starts at the moment we are happy and as far as I am aware so are most of the other i-shift owners although there are a few unhappy people Last edited by Brodick; 13th March 2007 at 23:43. |

you're the first to post up that particular symptom, sorry other have had different issues, but no one with a car that puts itself into neutral This did use to happen to early Audi TT DSG gearboxes, due to an incorrect level of oil in the gearbox. |

In subject of my first email, ACE - an independent vehicle inspection company is collecting my car tommorow & will provide a report on it. I'll put the report up when i know the outcome. In the meantime I have refused to drive it any further ( thank heaven its a company car)

i-shift problems
Yes bought brand new in January 2007 so I assume it is an 07 build. The Honda dealer tells me that they have still not sorted the problem, despite having the car now for over 3 weeks.

I would have thought they would put in a new gearbox and send the faulty one back to a specialist centre or Swindon for proper diagnostics?

They have agred to replace the car - and I certainly would not touch another i-shift. They have had the car now for 5 weeks and have still not located the fault. They believe it is wiring problem - perhaps due to a faulty wiring on the air con interfering with the electrics on the i-shift. Good luck with your's and I hope you do not have the same problems.

That's great news that they are replacing the car, shame is that your experience has put you off i-Shift as there are 1000's of us without problems. I love mine.

My car ,1.8 es i shift is still very quirky ,I have mentioned the gear box to my dealer and he has said it will take some getting used to! I questioned him on wether honda are doing anything about the problems, refering to messages on this excellent website - he would get back to me, but never did. I picked up the latest car price list and low and behold it now shows the 1.8 i shift models has gone up to 'D' ved band from my 'C' band - so whats going on.Has honda improved/altered the car and more importantly should they be altering previously sold models(If you have been unhappy).
How can they get over the issue of a different ved band with the DVLC !! |

It is my understanding that Honda have introduced a mod to all new i-shifts but not all those which were in the show rooms have been modified. I have made my views in i-shift very plain - it is lousy. If yourse persists with problems I would insist on it being changed.

dvla ved band changes
I have mentioned to my dealer several times about the i shift not being very satisfactory without much response, even after quoting this web site.Evidently, auto express did a article on new tax increases for 08 and refers to a harmonising of ved bands 'c,d,and f' with relative yearly increases - could this be Honda's getout over the change of band to update the i shift!!!

But I do have to say That I have found no problems with the I-shift ( yes it is a 07 plate car and so was given the upgrade prior to being registered) but I found the test drive car an 06 plate car fine to drive What people need to remember is that this is not a full automatic is as an automated manual and because there is only one clutch ( unlike VW's DSG box which has two clutches and is a lot more expensive) you do feel the change more ( dependant on your speed) It knows what gear to be in when pulling away from a stop Oh I could go on basically I do think Honda could refine it but it is good as it stands I do feel sorry for people who are having problems although I do wonder if the problems are caused by the driver!!!!! |

Everyone says the same thing about it taking time to get used to the auto system, but it is so much more enjoyable when you do. Relax and enjoy. |
