Heres another tip, those of you who have these bungs in place try removing one until you come across one that is starting to cause very minor corrosion to the drainage hole by holding moisture in. I will try and get some photos for you just for info

is the issue with the bungs related to wax protector from the inner door , causing them to not work through blocking them ???

I had several Honda's and this is the first with these plastic drain covers.
They are a pain to clean the underside of the door and possibly cause water so remain inside.
I think they are there only to improve the sound impression when slaming the door (make the door more air tight). I might remove them...
Without the cover it looks 100% same hole as my other Honda's

I'm inclined to agree with you Stef, regarding the covers. Only there to improve door acoustics, unfortunately they make your doors fill up with water apparently!

drainage hole bungs

Mine went missing after having the passenger doors replaced on insurance after a little tussle with a BMW driver with the optional mirrors and indicators. Repairer could not order replacements and was told by Honda that these should be removed at PDI? Have I been conned?

My point !
Could someone post pictures of these pieces, because I cant found them in my car !

Could it be like said rey1234 that your dealers have made a "mistake" by letting it during the PDI (Question : Did they do this PDI correctly for the other points ? So What do they do also during service, do they respect what honda tell them ?)

I see no reason why the dealer should remove them, unless it is a service note.
On the other hand, I never had the covers in any of my 11 previous Honda's...

Hi here are the picyures for the bungs taken off my car.

If you look at the door photo you can see the dirt on the edge and some rust forming, also the picture of the bung on the shows rust stuck to it, and the flap that is supposed to open for water outlet.

via the window seal it is no 100% water tight

maybe if Honda was to look a the door window seal this could possibly resolve the issue,

by removing the bungs all you are doing is just getting over the problem, not resolving the cause, in the long term, water is still running through the inner of the door panel that will lead to further problems

regards Pete

Water running through the doors a problem??

Every single car in the world has drainage holes in the doors. Yes, some water does get between the window and the seal. They cannot make them water-tights because the window opens. There would be too much pressure and resistance against the glass if they tried.

Anyway, it would be a slow trickle at worst in heavy, driving rain, not like any waterfall inside the door.

i would agree with you on that, however it seams that some people are getting too much water in the first place.

It seems that these little buggers are removing the paint!
I think I will remove them
- Easier to clean the door edge
- No more water inside
- No more problems for possible rust

Hi

just to clear things up - BUNGLE ** spot on.

The outer door window seal is supposed to let water in, it can no way be made watertight, every car manufacturer has in place drainage holes in the bottom of the doors.

The components inside the door are usually glavanised steel or aluminium and designed to operate in moist conditions. Electrical items are water resistant, but not watertight.

The problem with Honda is that they have fitted bungs where they are not required, as all other Honda's dont have bungs.

Also, when you open the door look at the door apeture, you will see a rubber weather seal. This is designed to prevent water and wid noise getting into the cabin. By removing the bungs doesnt mean you will let water into the car, it just wont happen unless you have a damaged door seal that is.

By keeping the bungs in place is not a probelm as long as you check and keep them clear on a regular basis, otherwise they will cause rust, and paint to flake off, which is NOT what you want especially under doors.

Hope this helps

BTW. Soundproofing doors was easy but stressful (popping off door cards=mega stress). Best £25 I've spent on the car so far. Doors feel solid when opening and closing. Road noise noticeably much reduced too.
The road noise on my wifes 1.8SE seems quite loud. We had 17" sport wheels fitted along with 225 tyres. Dose these wider tyres make a difference the road noise? If I am stationary in traffic I seem to be able to hear a lot noise from outside the car penetrating into the passenger compartment. Is this normal?

The wider the tyres qnd the lower the profile, the more road noise.
I did put some extra layer of ''rubber sound proof spray'" inside the rear wheel arch, also added some damping material dehind the front plastic arch trim. I removed a lot of panels while installing stuff on my car, and all panels have sound proofing materilal.
If you have noise while still, please check if the door are closed tight fit.

I must admit that road noise is a problem on ALL Honda cars all over the world. I had a lot of Honda's big and small and all have the same problem.
I also read about this problem in US magazines.
The wider tyres and low profile does not help, it does give the car a special feel to driver.

Mine seem to be draining OK.

I always seem to knock one or 2 off when I run the leather across the bottom of the door. Fortunately noticed and replaced them straight away.

I'm in 2 minds whether to just remove them?
