My month-old 1.8ES is similar to one of the posters above - all 4 doors have bungs, but on each door one drain hole has no bung.

The last thing you want is a door full of water, or worse, the dreaded "R" word that TC mentioned, but is there good reason to keep them. I'm thinking maybe to keep dirt out of the door or maybe to reduce wind noise, somebody thought they were worthwhile.

For now, I'm flirting them open each time the car is cleaned.

Apparently the recall is saying get rid of them all. All my doors are fine except the one which was really bad, the back of the bungs were absolutely filled with slime and black slush. I cant get all the rust off so dealers looking at next week when I go back usual day, usual time lol

This is one in a line of problems the dealer has supposedly "fixed" on my car. I was informed that the bungs had been installed upside down, and that righting them should stop water collecting in the doors. For reasons not quite clear to me though, water still collects by the pint in the passenger door after heavy rain; the other three doors seem generally unaffected. This will be aded to the "snag list" for my first service next month, which is heading towards a second sheet I'm sad to say.

I admit to not having checked the forum in several weeks, and must say it is a bit depressing to see the same faults being discussed so many months down the line.

I'm all in favour of removing them completely. Even if they work there could still be a tiny build up of water where they meet the door, enough to start the "R".

Removed the drain valves (Bungs ) from my 3 week old 1.8 ES today and although very little water drained out, I was really surprised to find that a number of pine cone seeds had found their way in to the door and starting to block the drains. Will be advising my Honda Agent tomorrow.

Have just spoken with the Honda Service Engineer about this and his comments are as follows.

"Removal of all drains is not applicable to the Civic (CRV only), however, on recent production cars, Civics are being delivered with 1 drain valve removed at differing locations in each door. Location of the removed drain is to a pattern predetermined by Honda."

I shall therfore be reinstalling 2 drains in each door and keeping a close eye on on possible blockage.

Something about swirl patterns and airflows as I recall. Only problem is I can't remember which one was removed in each door.

As I posted earlier just keep a watchful eye on them.

ok no prob!

there are lots of members here on the forum... if part of us checks one dealer and we write down the infos here we can gain a lot of data about that hole covers...

I will go to the dealer at the next week and will post my experience here..

Not good

After hearing sloshing sounds (not the fuel tank!) checked the door bungs and removed over one pint.... Cannot be good.
All holes complete with bungs

It would depend on where you always park as to what bungs would be best left off!
If you always park on level ground then the middle bung would be best left out. If you park on hills or sloping ground, then the front and rear bungs would be best left out. Whilst driving, the water would slosh past all of the holes eventially and some run off would be achieved. Whilst parked, it is going to accumulate at one end of the door or the other!

I think that you should email that to your dealer. Thats not just a little accummulation within the door. I would have your door cards removed and your speaker cones checked for water damage at the very least!
