Bodywork Drainage Holes For Doors

Hi
Just to inform you that - the drainage holes in the bottom of all the doors tend to get blocked, they are covered by rubber caps which are supposed to let the water out - problem is they block up. I have removed the caps from my civic, cleaned the area and injected waxoyl into the door.

Can second this. My car was missing the middle bung from the driver's door shortly before the recent 12K service. Following a night of heavy rain, I unlocked and opened to be greeted by a spout of water from the hole vacanted by the missing bung. At the service my dealer said they'd not got a replacement in stock and would order one. However, when I inspected the car the following morning, despite what service reception had reported, a bung HAD been put where none had been for a while. Do I presume it's now holding back a dam of water enough to drown half of West Berkshire?

Exactly what happened to me, i have now exposed all three drainage holes to give the water a chance to get out. Also i reckon water inside the door is not much good for the window/central motors, and associated wiring

I also had this problem, all my bungs had to be replaced as there was half the Thames sloshing about in there! We'll see how it goes, as I can't say anything at the mo because of the lack of rain! Another hosepipe ban on the way then?

I'm really surprised by this thread. I had all the door cards off over the weekend to soundproof the doors and didn't see an rubber bungs on the bottom of the door, only open drainage holes. No sign of any water either.

BTW. Soundproofing doors was easy but stressful (popping off door cards=mega stress). Best £25 I've spent on the car so far. Doors feel solid when opening and closing. Road noise noticably much reduced too.

I've checked mine and no bungs, just normal drainage holes. if theres bungs in the holes how is the water supposed to get out??????????????

the rubber bungs have a flap in them - in theory to let the water dribble out, rather than gush all over your feet

I've taken mine out, and just stand back when I open the door

(Note to self - ought to get round to telling the wife really....)

Just what I was thinking,will have to wait till betterhalf gets home and check the doors,with the rain we've had lately could flood the northwest ( get yer wellies on people )

Why not modify the bungs (or their flaps) slightly to allow better drainage, rather than remove them completely?

I'd rather do that...

How about a "How To" and where to the buy the stuff from? Sounds a great idea if it makes that much difference.

I'm not sure about removing the bungs completely. I might be wrong, but I thought they stopped spray and dirt from the road getting in the door whilst letting water out. Otherwise, why do Honda and other manufactures bother putting them on?

Perhaps they might whistle (like blowing across the top of a bottle) if they're not there. Mine don't whistle though.
