Great drive but a few dissapointments
Having traded in for a 57 2.2 SE in February 2008 from a 2004 1.6 SE the drive is remarkable. However, the following are very annoying;

Poor paintwork - Resulting in more front bonnet chips within 7 weeks than I had in 4 years with my previous Civic.

Condensation - Always there right across rear window where glass meets plastic. Apparently a characteristic of the vehicle.....

Rattling from rear - Still trying to pinpoint this

Annoying noise from front interior left POSSIBLY GLOVE BOX AREA! - I guess the turbo is in this vicinity but should it really be so noisy at less than 30mph?

Squeeky brakes - The car is only 6 months old but I am now getting this awful noise when the brakes are applied - sounds like metal on metal. The same noise occasionally comes in when the accelarator is depressed

If anyone can help with these niggles it would be greatly appreciated.
Its going to the dealer next week which I hope will give me more confidence if only a couple of these areas can be fully addressed

Mine I think is coming from the same point as yours. I did some trick on my other car few years before. I Sprayed vasiline between the plastics and for a period of five years I god rid of the rattles. I am planning to do the same but I'm scared of the electronics. Cause if the vaseline leaks during the summer into the dash electronics might cause a problem

Rattle when vehicle reaches around 40mph

Hi Everyone, this is my first post on this site so appologies if this has been commented on in the past. I have taken delivery of a new Galaxy grey 1.8ES just over a week ago, and have noticed that there is an annoying rattle which appears when the car reaches aound the 40 - 45mph mark and continues over this speed It is audible inside the car. Under 40mph, the noise disappears (even on rough roads). I think it might be a piece of trim external to the car, but was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue before and could direct me to the likely possible candidate for the source, before I take it back to the dealer and they strip the whole dash apart!!
Great web site by the way and very helpful reading prior to purchasing the car!

I have the same problem with mine. Althought with the radio on you can't hear anything. But I don't want to remove the glovebox. Is it easy to have an access there?

I have a similar rattle that starts at about 55mph, and which disappears when I slow below about 45mph. My dealer said it is something to do with the vents behind the dash. I can't tell you whether they are right yet, as there seems to be a problem getting hold of the replacement parts

Thanks for the feedback Foggy69. I will mention this when it goes in for investigation.

Parcel Shelf Rattle / Squeak fix

If it helps anyone, my Mum's 5 door Civic had a rattle coming from the rear inside. A bit of investigation later showed it to be the parcel shelf rubbing against the ledges on which it rests.

The fix - which worked a treat - was to buy some black self-adhesive velcro about 1cm wide, only using the soft furry side, stick a strip along the ledge on which the parcel shelf sits, getting it right into the corner of the legde. Result was no more squeak/rattle whatsoever, and the strip looks like it was almost meant to be part of the original trim .

I seem to have a rattle around 55-70mph,sounds like its coming from the passenger side possibly mirror or something.

Yeah, I have very similiar problem! Depends from engine revs, but it probably from somewhere under mid console...

Can't find out how to easily access under mid console?

I thought I had a rattle in my car and when I listen I found that it was the passenger seatbelt rubbing against the plastic when it moves. It doesn't bother me but if it does it's an easy fix - even for me
