Hmm, I wonder how to best approach this. The problem is that the disc is classified as a consumable, so not covered by the warranty...
Firstly, you are sure you're not confusing brake pad marks: disc_crack1.jpg Or normal pitting: disc_crack2.jpg Real cracks are quite obvious, and will be a defect in the casting process. The rear discs do next to nothing, so your pad wear should be small. The pad material starts at 9mm, and replacement happens at about 2mm, so if you could measure the pad thickness (say it was 7mm) you could ask "is it normal to have to replace the rear discs 3 times for every pad change"? If the answer is no, then you could persuade the dealer that he has admitted that the discs are not of merchantable quality. I always approach these things with a bit of a laugh "you should see how bad those are!", trying to get the dealer to humorously agree. Any photos? |

They probably won't budge. Would you say they looked more like my photo, or more like this:

Has the dealer spotted it?
I'm going to guess that they're just pad marks - cracks are pretty obvious. If the dealer hasn't seen them, just ask him to have a look. You sometimes see a bit of a crazing on the disc surface, again nothing to worry about. |
