What do you think of this on a brand new type R

Picked up the Type R today - enjoying it! At the dealers I found the two grommets missing on the passenger side as has been pointed out by others - dealer is going to sort it. The door alignment seems fine. There was a minor defect in the paintwork on the passenger door edge wher it looked like ther had been a bubble - have to take the car into the paint shop to have it looked at. When I was looking at the rear of the car in different light - the rear wrap round section on the passenger side seems to be a slightly different shade of silver and also the panel seems to be out of line.

Picture 1 showing the panel alignment

Picture 2 - showing discoloring

What should I do? There seems to be a very small amount of red paint at the bottom left hand corner of the rearmost panel join as well.

Oh dear!

Oh dear!

Oh dear!

That panel does look a different shade to the rest of the vehicle......and out of line I agree.

I bet you're gutted!

You will get it sorted, but in the meantime you have my sincere condolences.

Can you get inside the boot and remove some trim to see if there are any signs of accident repair? It's not uncommon for new cars to have had panels and paint, but it is rare for it to be of such poor quality.

The key is to return the car quickly, and leave it with the dealer.

But should I reject the car or just get a repair done - possibly the car had already been repaired - the PDI was done at Honda UK on 21/5/07 and delivered to dealers 14/06/07 - I can only wonder what the 24 day delay was due to.

The car otherwise is really good although the hard ride is not appreciated by the passengers!!

It's quite common for the bumbers to be a slightly different shade, but that is very noticable (as is the gap!) I'd speak to the dealer ASAP and if there is anything else that concerns you, then start talking rejection!

Yikes! 24 days... I'd ask the dealer for exact details of the repair, and possibly pay for an AA inspection (those guys are really good, and worth the money).

It seems quite common for the plastic bumpers to look a slightly different shade to the bodywork nowadays.
As to the misalignment of the bumper, it does appear that the bumper was removed. The rear bumper on mine was removed when I had the trim sprayed. It is now misaligned like in the picture, despite some fiddling from the bodyshop. I think it is quite difficult to put the bumper back on straight if you don't have the knack.

If the front bumper is ok for alignment and colour i would say someone has changed the rear bumper or even put a bumper of a different type r on at the factory, they spray the car with all the doors etc on and then remove them untill they are later reattached at final assembly with the electrics trim fitted etc same with bumpers.......

The bumper would have been removed by the dealer when fitting your parking sensors.

That bumper has to go - it is very noticeable, I have had two bumpers and had two seperate bumper repairs and you can see no difference at all in the colour and my car is silver.

very valid comment, my silver rgt was the same as far as a slight difference in the tone, but alignment was fine, it also shows up a bit more when the car is dirty

Went to the dealers this morning - the colouring is only really noticeable in the shade - in the sun you cant really tell.

They are going to realign and will have the car in as there is also what looks like a burst bubble on the outside of the passenger door - also will fix the scratch I put down the side of the door when it blew open against a van in the petrol station yesterday .

I'm happy with that.

Nice car Stephen B!!!

Well I wouldnt be happy to pay all that money and then have to park the car in the sun all the time, your bumper is the worst colour match I have seen, what will you do in the winter months, I bet every day as you approach your car it will stare you in the face and really wind you up.
