Stereo Frozen
Hi all,
Sorry if this or similar has been posted before. Basically, I went to change from Radio 1 to my cd player in the car and the display just froze. Now even when I turn off the car and remove the key, the display still remains. And the stereo isn't functional at all! Anyone know of any quick fixes or do I have to wait to get it fixed by Honda (booked in but have over a week without music to wait!!). cheers |

Is there not a risk of loosing other important settings by disconnecting the battery?
Some other modern cars can get messed up by disconnecting the battery. I have even heard of ECUs having to be reset by a dealer after a battery disconnect. |

There's probably a sequence of buttons you can press to reset the sound system. Perhaps there'll be a Honda Engineer accessing this site who can tell us the correct sequence!

I'd disconnect the batt for a bit. Nothing that bad can happen, because batteries run flat and need disconnecting for some maintenace/repair work. You might lose the ecu's memory for your style of driving, but it will soon learn again.

well I didn't get a chance to check out the battery idea before I left (had to go to Montreal, what a bummer, eh?) and when I came back the battery was dead! Not even the central locking was working! Got the AA out thought to jump start me and she's working fine now. Good thing is that the stereo reset itself and is now working perfectly (so cheers Pottsy, think you were right re disconnecting battery). Took it back to Honda and they couldn't find a fault. Strange, but as long as I can listen to some tunes while I drive my beloved, I'm happy!

Could the voltage have been low even before the trip and this was causing the radio problem?
I have seen a few strange happenings in different cars when the battery voltage is low. Even if the logic is that once the engine is running everything should be fine as it is running off the generator. |

I have the stereo lock up several times, no sound but still a display. I had initially 'blamed' the ipod link kit, someone on this site suggested it may be the phone mute wire/function (although I have no mobile phone facility). Problem goes away once car is switched off then on, there is no 'pattern'?!?

2.2 CDTi EX - recurring flat battery flat battery after hols I really hope you don't have the same problem I'm currently having. However I would recommend that (if at all possible) you leave your car parked up again for a few days (usually about 4 - 5 days for me), and see if you get the flat battery again. If you do have this problem, then you should really get it investigated - don't just accept the fault. I think the battery drain problem is more widespead than people realise. It only happens if the car is left several days though. If the car is driven most days, which will be the case for most people, then the problem doesn't reveal itself. |
