VSA/ABS Fault

Have not seen this fault reported before.
Collected my second hand I-Shift 1.8 EX about 4 weeks ago. It was a dealers demo and just what we wanted. Being only 5 months old with 3000 on the clock we decided we had a good buy.
On Friday we intended travelling down to Essex and after 150 miles we stopped for refreshment and driver changeover. On starting the car, the System Check lights indicated faults with the VSA and ABS. Unfortunately it would not engage either auto or manual so a recovery was started. OK so far but the low loader broke down after about 10 miles and it wasn't until 2am on Saturday that we eventually arrived home.
The next day we unloaded the car and typically the car started and I was able to engage both manual and auto. So off to the dealer. About half mile from the garage as we approached the final junction the system check appeared again and the gear slipped out of auto and into 4th gear in manual. Luckily we just managed to continue in 4th gear to the garage and having parked and gone onto neutral it immediately stuck there. The dealer provided a new Jazz and I am still waiting to hear from them who are in turn waiting to hear from HondaUK.
And thats the end of my sob story!

I suppose it could be electrical gremlins
either that it is the second hand thing
and the car has been thrashed to within an inch of it's life
and now it just doesn't ant to play

Yes but my car is a manual. There was something wrong with the car though as it did not feel right at the time.

VSA/ABS Fault

It seems ages since I started this thread but have at last got my Civic back. Briefly, they changed the VSA/ABS control unit but it still showed as a fault. HUK also got involved and having tried all the usual tests decided that the engine wiring harness was at fault. They had a little difficulty in obtaining a replacement but eventually it was changed and was ready on 3rd August but for personal reasons I was unable to collect the car until this Saturday 11th. The car had been throroughly cleaned and topped up with fuel and we negotiated the spare wheel kit as compensation for the delay and frustration. I suppose I could have tried for more but was happy with the outcome and my wife and I left on happy terms with the dealers. So should anyone get the same problem then my experience may help. Having had the use of a *normal* automatic Jazz for the past weeks we have now to readjust to the Civic. I have put a question about recalls on the Online Recall and Updates thread and would appreciate your views.

Similar problem

Sounds like a similar problem to my current one! VSA / ABS / BATTERY lights - I lost power too and mine is only 3 days old (Brand New). I also have a courtesy car, and am waiting to hear from garage. soon I hope!

I have the ES I-Shift -

Good luck

Somewhere on the forum is my post about a similar fault, my VSA/ ABS lights came on and the engine surged badly, when I stopped and restarted the car the big engine symbol was on.The dealer changed the computer and touch wood it seems to have fixed it.
Mine is manual so there was no problem driving it 2 miles to the garage.

Glad yours is sorted - I have since heard from the dealer it is a faulty wiring loom?? Could take 10 days to 6 weeks to get part and fix. I am gutted to say the least, trouble is I have heard that to find the actual wiring fault is a job in itself. I have asked about rejecting the vehicle, but they say I have to give them evey opportunity to fix it - but is within 6 weeks a reasonable time limit?? - It seems a long time to me

They could build you a new car in 6 weeks. Seems a very long time to me.

Your dealer is partly correct when they say you have to give them a reasonable time to fix it (unless the car is very new). However, you are entitled to a reduction in the price.

Take a look at this BBC site for some examples.

My ABS/VSA light came on about 20 minutes ago while driving on the motorway in cold but dry conditions, I tried to push the VSA button several times but nothing happened. The warning did disappear after a restart and I hope it'll stay this way.

Thanks for that - the car has now been rejected! But funnily, the day after it was rejected the 'part' arrived! Still rejecting it though, as it was only 3 days old - I mean if this was a TV or something, who would accept a repair - surely we'd all want a new one. So whats the difference (apart from a lot more money involved)!

Still have the courtesy car, and hope to hear from Chiswick Honda soon - 'Hopefully' with a new car, but will have to wait and see. I can see this going on for a long time

VSA / Lights - REPLACEMENT CAR ;O)

... As per my previous posting last year, with what sounds like the ame problem. Chiswick Honda EVENTUALLY agreed to me getting a 'NEW' car ;o)

This tooK approx 6 weeks of hard work and negotiations, but delivery is due tomorrow. Be interesting to see if they have 'given' me anything for all the inconvenience they have caused! A few years ago I had trouble with a New Toyota and they sent a huge bunch of flowers and a lovely 'Toyota' picnic basket!

Have to agree with a prevous post about Honda Customer care - it certainly doesn't deserve to be one of the best!

Fingers crossed all goes well for me tomorrow

I'll keep you posted!
