Yes I know we've had a lot of heavy rain lately and I'm well aware that if wet it's a good idea to open the tailgate slowly but this morning I didn't open the back and simply loaded several items through the rear passenger door.
In the week, because of my job I tend to leave the rear seats folded down for a bigger load area, hence I have a clear view of the inside of the tailgate. As I went to reverse off my drive and looked over my shoulder to do so I saw water running down both sides of the interior plastic from both interior rear light cluster covers. (These are sections that can be removed in order to access bulbs etc). Below both sections are 2 small inverted sections in the interior plastic which kind of form shelves below the light clusters and each one had a pool of water in which had clearly collected from the sections above. At this stage it is hard to determine whether there is a leak via the base of the rear window or whether each light cluster has allowed water through but it wasn't great news ! I used to own an Alfa 147 and had it in at the dealers 3 times for severe water leaks affecting the floor, carpets etc. ( The last time it was with them almost 3 weeks and they had to gut the whole interior before locating the cause...). Has anyone else experienced leaks in their Civic as described? I repeat, this is NOT water running from the tailgate when opening it, it has leaked in while the car was parked on the drive, on a flat surface (as opposed to inclined), overnight. |

Well I took the car in for it's first service last Monday and mentioned the leak and on examination they found that the central light/reflector assembly which goes all across the rear of the tailgate was allowing in water so it will be replaced under warranty after 25.7.07.
I will post an update. I only got one reply to this thread which was no real suprise. I suspect most people on the site normally drive with the rear seats in the normal position rather than my habit of leaving the seat backs down for a decent load area. It was only because of this that I ever noticed that water was running in. |

[Leaks] Water leaking in through tail gate
Had a similar problem.
It turned out that the seal between the back window and the spoiler had started to perish! |
