Central Clear Plastic Fouling Bumper

Anyone else had this problem, noticed before I cleaned it today that the central portion of the front reflector has ground into the top of the bumper, its on both sides, but the left is worse. It is at the point where the headlight meets the central bit.

Ouch! just went outside and checked mine. Dont have anything on the right, but on the left side i have 1mm spot without paint! It aint nearly as bad as yours but it's irritating. Probably caused when you go over rough spots / speed bumps and the plastic touches the bumper. Crap! You can probably fix it by removing the mask and roughening the underside with a file or scratching paper from the part which touches the bumper! Going to mention this on the next service!

Mine has a dark patch on the left too. Not big though, but you can see contact.

Looking at how that Milano Red paint has come off... I wonder if it's just not as tough as the pearl/metallic coats?

It looks like the bumper may have been hit or pushed at one point, maybe from somebody using the 'touch' method of getting between 2 cars.

The soft bumper may have deformed enough to push it against the grille.

Richie, that doesn't look very nice does it? Even though the lights look like they're wonky, mine are exactly the same (except the top of the bumper is lower). Maybe they took the idiot who fitted my door all wonky and put him on the bumper section...

Do you think there is any point talking to Honda and see if this is something we can put down to them, or do you think this ones my fault. I at least need to get whatevers fouling taken back a little, whether I get the bumper retouched or not.

I've just checked mine and the central plastic section has a tiny rubber buffer between the lower corner and the bumper. Also, the side gap between the central and lights unit on your photos appears to be 5mm or more, mine is only 2mm on either side. Seems as if your bumper has been pushed in and that has squeezed the clear plastic sections out of alignment.

I am wondering whether it is the bumper moving up or whether the central plastic was never aligned correctly, if the bumper had come up then surely the headlamps would have fouled also.

Just looking at Pottsys post, he seems to have a large gap also, I will go and measure it later, once the rain stops. Typical I cleaned it yesterday and was gonna go photgraph it somewhere today, bugger.

Maybe only the centre section marked the trim because there is no leeway for adjustment wereas the side panels are adjustable for alignment 'fine tuning' and were simply pushed away leaving the gap? Try using a torch and mirror to look behind the panel to see if the fixing shows any sign of movement.

My cameras macrofocus is crap so i cant take a picture from any closer. You can just barely see it from here but underneath the front panel it's missing a very small bit of paint.

The gap is so small that I probably couldn't get a piece of paper between the bumper and the corner of the central perspex mirrored thingy - identical to Pikkumies.

I would have thought that when they're putting the Civic together there would be identical holes, fixing points etc so that all parts would go on properly.

Is it me or do you guys have no faith in the UK car industry - it seems to me that cars made abroad - Japan, Germany have far superior build quality.

Come on you people who work in Honda's Swindon factory - get you act together and start putting the cars together better. Its no wonder car manufacturers are pulling out of the UK - they're probably paid more than their EU counterparts and the quality control is better because staff have pride in their work.

Rant over

I had already mentioned that this is happening to mine in the topic "poor quality paintwork"

It seems another fault has appeared with this car!

Checked mine and appears to be okay - rechecked it again tonight though as the front underside took a minor thump reversing off my Auntie's drive tonight down a big kerb!

Same here. Small bits of rubber between the glass and paintwork. Maybe Honda has already addressed this issue by adding those? Doesn't do much for those of you who don't have them, but maybe you could take it to your dealer to have them retro-fitted.
