Yahoo!.... Blo*dy He*l! ..Worlds fastest fault..

Picked up the keys to my new civic today, I was quite chuffed when I saw it...

Everything went just fine at the dealers, I couldn't find any thing out of the ordinary, all my options were in place, and I there was nothing to report. I paid the outstanding balance, shook hands with the salesman and drove away.

200 yards later, discovered that the radio is useless -FM dissapeared, and LW and MW is just a distant rumble. Seems to me the aerial is not connected.
Turned round at the next roundabout, returned to the dealers, and have had to book the car in, as they recon about 2 hrs needed to strip the dash and diagnose the problem.

Two weeks without a radio!

I'm not going to name and shame the dealers, but I can't help thinking that the PDI check should have found this blo*dy great big problem!

Most annoyed.

Wouldn't you have thought at the factory that would be a basic check ?

Reckon that PDI might stand for Pretty Disgraceful Init?

Had silly little probs with Millie on arrival day that should have been sorted on PDI!

Sorry and that, but after all WOTTA MOTOR tho' eh?

Dont know that one should expect the PDI to find it (would be interesting to see the PDI "check list".

But I do agree that the factory tests should find it.

I don't know about Honda, but these days most of the PDI donkey work is done off site and before deleivery to the dealer. Some vehicles come with a sticker on the windscreen with the name of the PDI company on it. Only the most basic checks are now carried out by the dealer, at the same time as installing "dealer fit" extras!
The standard checklist usually includes Fluid levels, Suspension, Braking (foot and hand adjustment), Electrics (Lighting Etc), General Bodywork (Chips and other visible damage).
Most checks performed by the dealer are basic "fit for the road" safety items. I can't speak for the official Honda Checklist, but that appears to be the industry standard list of items for most brands.

Edit:
I would have thought that the workshop staff would have picked up on the radio, as every time I have visited a dealer they appear to use every car in the workshop as a Radio 1 transmission array at full volume!

It's not Str****one, but I'm not going to say... yet! - might be a good bargaining tool in the not-so-distant future!

The courtesy car will be free, but I will be getting somthing out of it, afterall, I will be paying for the fuel to get to and from the dealers, and my time - I will have to take a day off work. (I quite like the look of those posh gear knobs)

The CD / MP3 function works OK though, and the SatNav recieves traffic signals fine (I think, I havn't worked out how to use it yet...)

Bet it cost you a bit more as well if my experience is anything to go by. Why is it that every time I collect a courtesy car the tank is empty?

The last time I got in one the fuel light was already on, needless to say I was not best pleased, so I put my £3 of fuel in it, went home, and then made sure I just drove the "test drive loop" once I got back to the dealers so the light was on again and had been on for a while, worst thing was, it was a Sales Guys car, an Accord Estate, kiddies seat and the lot in the back. Wonder if he got to the garage that night!

** I should point out that "kiddies seat and the lot" does not include the kid, just general junk**

Surprisingly the Type S I borrowed last week from my dealer was nearly full!!

I don't listen to the radio so I'd better go and check it out.

Thanks

I thought the radio was part of the PDI. When I picked my car up with only 4 miles on the clock, the presets were tuned in - BBC Radio 1-4, Classic FM and a local station. Guess my dealer was more thorough or the engineers were bored!

That must have been the one I loaned while my Accord was in for a service. They (Yeomans Honda Littlehampton) rang my mobile phone when they had finished my car and I had just arrived at my destination 4 hours away. Obligingly they said to keep the Civic as long as I liked. So I did.

I wish… took it back that night. 200+ miles on £10 derv and 'spirited' driving. Wanted one ever since but I wish they had a sun roof. I hate air con except in the winter to quickly clear misted windows.
