Creaking trim around the back doors....

....has anyone experienced this? It has only started happenig in the last few days since the weather cooled by 10 or 15C. There is a creaking from either the rear door trim or just the back of the car around the rear seats....bloody annoying thats for sure. Anyone else take their car to the dealers for their opinion?? Certainly did not get it when I got the car in April...and the test car had 5000 miles on it (mine has 4500) and did not creak.

I did have a 'creaking' tailgate hinge, cured it with a dose of WD40

This is far from a bit of WD-40 to cure creak! Took the car in today to have it looked at and also to replace the rear shocks. The conclusion is they need it in for a few days at the end of the month to check more thourghly. They have bulletins talking about the tailgate and the glass roof...but neither of these fixes did anything. You have seen those old skool horror flicks with the creaking door opened by Igor?? Well that is the sound coming from the rear driver side of my car when pulling away....going over big bumps and also anything that involves turning 90 degrees in a turn or roundabout.

Seems the boys in Swindon could not be bothered to make mine properly. So I will report back at the end of the month with the result.

I don't have a problem with the door, but with the front off-side wing when I'm polishing it. Any slight pressure makes it creak. No problem driving though.

Right you lot, enough of your old joints and creaking body parts...update on my car.

Car was rebooked in to investigate why the guys at Swindon made such a hash of building my car that it had a creak coming from the rear on the right hand side somewhere...it went in yesterday.

Got a call just now with a progress report (firstly may I say...nice one Honda...I am now experiencing better customer service than I did with Fiat, Alfa, Merc, BMW etc just because they actually called me!) ... they have stripped the interior and the bodyshop are investigating and have told me to stay in the courtesy Jazz (Pole Position steering...awful....slow, but a great stereo!) until next Wednesday!!!

Well....while it may be taking them a while at least they are doing something and not fobbing me off, so fingers crossed when I get the car next week it will not sound like the Cutty Sark in a heavy swell.

headlining

With my creak i am told the headling will have to be removed as it is body twisting? and above the drivers side there is a bracket/tension bar? which is meant to stop this .
At the moment i am waiting because they have another civic in with a fault which needs the headlining removed and i didn't want to be the first

Makes sense, the creak on mine ... well you just can't tell where it is. When opening the back door fully you get this noise from the roof. Does yours have the glass roof as well??

To be fair I am not bothered it they get it wrong as it will keep going back until they get it right!! And that will keep the mileage down on my car and just tot up on the courtsey!!!

But by the sounds of it that is what they need to do .... so some assembly bod in Swindon decided one Friday that applying 250nm (made up value btw) to the tension bar was too much like hard work. I wonder if Honda trace back issues like this the actual worker responsible? I am sure with the production records they could do that, then give the muppet responsible a good birching. Maybe that is what they do in Japan....hence Japanese made cars are the best in the world!

es

Mines an es with the glass roof
what i am worried about is them not fixing it and the inside of the car not looking right.
I have spent all my working life in the motor trade and know how a small annoying fault can turn in to a major one
I bought a new landcrusier in 1993 and it cost a lot of money so i thought i would keep on till i got what i paid for it went from bad to worse.
In the end toyota uk took the car back and sold me a new one at a reduced price by that time it was nearly a year old.

Right then folks, got the car back just now. So it has been with them for 2 weeks! However they have fixed the creak. Now this is very important that you listen...especially if you have a glass roof!

The roof is welded into position with x amount of spot welds per side. The glass roof models have less welds because there is less metal, but they have more welds (in terms of length divided by welds) in a smaller space.

After trying all the fixes in the service bulletins they stripped the interior and head lining and found that the right side quarter panel where it meets the small piece of metal roof did not have the amount of spot welds it should to maintain the structural intergrity, hence the creak whenever torsion is applied to the chassis (bumpy roads, corners, roundabouts etc) and why it was less noisy in the warm weather (metal expands).

So they added the welds, repainted that part of the interior and then put it back to together again.

Quite a big job as you can see, it has fixed it and I have now have my car back built as it should be!

So I was right...someone at Honda did not make my car properly, but the guys and gals at Amyethyst of Cheltenham did a great job from start to finish. So many thanks to them.

Nice result! I would presume the fact I only hear anything when reversing off the drive and maybe the 1st speed bump it's not the same issue as mine...

Yours sounds like the rear shocks issue to me. Get your car down the dealer and tell them you want them changed. There will be no problem, they are happy to change them.
