Grinding noise.

I've been troubled by this for the last few weeks.

At low speed only, (i.e manouvering speeds) I get a horrible grinding sound from the front nearside wheel arch when steering, makes no difference turning left or right.

I asked the dealer to check at first service, they said they had taken it for a drive and could find nothing but it's likely they didn't try it at low speed as in normal driving it's perfectly quiet.

I'm going to have to book it in again and take an engineer for a drive to recreate the noises.

Anyone have any thoughts or similar experiences?

I have experienced a noise from the same corner on mine when manouvering at low speed, but only as lock is put on or taken off, more of a squeak than a grinding.

I have this now -- anyone ever get a resolution?

Mine's due in for a service soon anyway, so will get them to take a look.

Sounds VERY much like what I had, turned out to be the brake pads/discs needed replacing.
Does it get worse when you brake?

Yesterday I got the same symptoms - grinding sound when steering either left or right at low speed or at stop. Moreover I'd say noise becomes harder as steering wheel nears sidemost positions. As czechplastik said sound comes from the front right side. Braking doesn't affect the issue. Seems it became louder today.

Steering booster problem? Other assumptions?
Has anyone clarified the reason?

P.S. Sorry for possible language mistakes, English isn't my native...

I had something similar:

Creaking Front + John Banks Cambridge = Problem Solved!

Worth checking to see if this is your problem.

Well, seems I clarified reason of the noise in my case (see my previous post).

I'm pretty immature in the terminology...
The cause is rubber pad (or two rubbing pads) at the joint of front shock absorber and body.

When it's got too dry (overheat and dust, or maybe just due to low quality of material) it starts to noise. It looks reasonable since the problem is absolutely gone after 1-2 rainy days when air humidity becomes high.

Dealer says the problem can be handled under the warranty.
