Jon, i have a milano 2.2 sport, 57 plate, under 2k miles and 3 stone chips already, a touch up pen does help a little. Normally you can hear a thud of a stone but i heard nowt with these - very VERY annoying.

They whistle of the front of my BM like bullets with nowt showing for it, so it's got to be this crappy paint they are using, I'm tempted to get that stone chip film for mine from the states.

I can sympathise with you guys but we don't have one chip on our
Galaxy grey paint job 7 months old almost 3000 miles - although I have to say the paint job on our CR-V feels much better than the civic obviously more clear coat sealent so it is fit for purpose |

stonechips
I have the same after 2300 miles, asked Honda dealer & all they can say is that other customers have experienced this, they did check the paint thickness and it appears within tolerance. There is a problem, why dont they take us seriously.Im thinking of the stone protection kits but they are expensive for a few peices of clingfilm.

Actually I think no paint can resist stones, actually... Honda paint may be thin, yes, but I must say the chips on my paint (champaigne silver) are much less/smaller than on my previous car (Citroen - silver met.) |

I had an in depth paint analysis carried out by HUK on the original paintwork on my car.
According to their report the lacquer on my car was below their specification in many of the areas they took measurements from. However because the total depth of the paint layers met their required minimum specification (in some places only just). My arguement was that surely the lacquer should have been met their minimum requirement at the very least but they refused to accept that the paintwork was inferior. It was a losing, stressful battle that I ended up withdrawing from. Having had my entire car (except roof) re-sprayed (the bonnet twice) my paint appears to have a lot more resistance to chips thankfully. |

Jack,
Actually, CR-Vs are built in Swindon as well. FR-Vs are built in Japan. And, hopefully TC your paint is also more scratch resistant now too! |

Had HONDA UK, do a check on my last Prelude 2.2 VTi's paintwork thickness Topcat.
Said it was all above min' specification. It took me many months, but in the end, they sent me a cheque for £350. Got onto them again, stating it wasn't enough, so they sent me another £350. I think that's why the M.D. of HONDA U.K. (Ken Kier) is retiring, - he has had enough of me. |

As i suspected. I checked the other Civic we have at my work, it spends most of its days on site, 07 plate 2.2 sport, 15,000 miles, like a wreck inside due to the driver and his muddy boots but not a scratch, dent, chip in sight, His colour is Galaxy Grey Mettalic.

Had my vivid blue 2.2 se 3 months now (had 9000 miles on it) hardly any paint defects, and im being critical about the defects, done 1500 miles mainly southern end of M60 / M56 with a few runs out to wales.
Now my bonnet and wings look like a painters radio . Im gutted............. Previous cars(Renault and Ford) had nothing like the paint damage this car has and ive driven over the same roads for the last 20 years to the same place of work. Even work colleagues have commented on stone chips |

I feel for you mate, as I have had the chips too.
It will take many months of writing and phoning Honda U.K., but if you care to wade through my posts of the last day or two, you will see, I got a few bob out of them. |

To protect car bonnets from stone chips, manufaturers should apply a thin layer of rubberised primer to cushion against chips. The topcoat is hard but flexible, the thickness doesn't really make a difference to chipping.
The anti-chip layer is an extra process that manufacturers remove as a cost-cutting exersise |
