Angry What next !?!

Well folks, thats my Type R back from the garage, the following list states what was done -

3rd gear linkage, which as you will know has been a problem with most new type r's. Changed out and seem okay, only miles have been from garage to work, 3 miles all is well so far.

Handbrake was tightened again, had a slight incident of the car rolling down a hill when the handbrake was firmly on, another fault we know about.

The cd player kept sticking, so it came out and was replaced also under warranty, so far so good.

The door hinge broke, another warranty replacement. Anyway you'd think that the mechanic would see BROKEN DOOR HINGE on the report, think again ! After waiting nearly 7 days to get my car back, I am today am inform that the mechanic forgot about the broken hinge and let my door swing freely into one of the hydruallic pillars ! Thanks very much. Cannot believe the list of things that have happened to my now not so new car. Dent devils have already had a go at fixing, but it's on the crease of the door which will be nigh on impossible to get out.

Now the garage has said that a new skin and spraying are the most likely option.......... arggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg ! NEW CAR FOR GODS SAKE. Any suggestions on my next move ??? It's been one of those days !

What are the symptoms for the 3rd gear problem you speak about, as I have noticed on my 4 week old car that when cold I have to be a bit firm with 3rd gear selection otherwise it sounds like a cow on laxatives when it jumps out! But once warmed up it is fine!

It's kinda like you need a double push, definate notchyness and especially when it's cold, but cold or not it shouldn't happen !

With regard to my door problems, will be getting on the phone tomorrow - not standing for the cheapest option to dealer, a new undamaged car went in (ish) , new door required !

Ask for a new door not a fix they should oblige if they are any good as a dealership.

And keep your fingers crossed that this run of bad luck is temporary

In my opinion I think you should first speak to the dealership about it, maybe speak to a manager about the damage caused and so on and see what response you get from them. I always think that you should give the person who makes a mistake etc a second chance to make it better. I think to be honest you should try for a new door but see what you can get from the dealer. Whether it is sloppy work or not the mechanic shouldn't have forgotten about the hinge and that is another thing in your favour. They are in the wrong and they know they are, they are simply trying to get around the situation as cheaply as possible.

Go and talk to them and if you feel you are getting nowhere then take it a step further.

suggest they swap your door with another one from the showroom, and see how happy they are about that

to be honest, I'd be surprised if there was a huge price difference between fitting a new door and removing the old one, putting a new skin on, and refitting...

(In other words, hang on for a new door )

The labour would be more as they will have to replace/move all of the electrics in the door, and of course spray the whole door inside and out. Where with the skin they only weld a new skin on and spray that!

When you get the car back after the 'skin', get in and close the door fairly firmly and listen.

Last time I had a skin (not Honda) closing the door produced a horrible tinny empty biscuit tin type noise.

Being a new car and being they damaged it I would go for a complete door as well.

If you car is milano red and they either spray or replace your door, you will see the repair, as I had some damage on my present cars drivers door and that was sprayed (RED) and it ended up that the whole drivers side of the car had to be resprayed as red paint is almost impossible to match (have been told by three bodyshop managers and my insurance assessor) the miss match is more noticeable under artificial light and stands out a mile!!!

Hope this helps you.........

Yes you are right, I used to own rosso red XR3i many years ago, and its a mare to match red paint, you can always tell its been sprayed under street lights. I would try and get the body shop to blow in the paint, in other words blend it in into both wings, as the should do with metallic paint.

Well all is now eventually complete, the garage actually replaced my door with one from their demonstrator which seems fine. So after i'd had all the work done, inc door swop I went merrily (xmas quote) on my way. Day later i find out they have mucked up the electrics in both doors ! Jesus you do wonder about the standards these guys work to, so it was back in yesterday to get them re-sync'd or something.

I'd like to think the trusty civinfo sticker may have helped get my door replaced !

The standard of workmanship in these dealers is crap.On the 1st service on my wifes Jazz sport they managed to put four scratches on the side skirts. Then on replacing the clutch master cylinder on our new 1.8SE Civic they didn't put back the bulkhead grommet properly, causing loads of engine noise to enter the passenger compartment. I did it myself in the end.

Did they have to paint the new door or was it a good match

The door was a good match, but still having problems, the central locking keeps clicking on and off whilst driving.

Another problem - boot release not working now, have had it in and they have ordered a new bit ..... really amazed at the list of problems, last car was a lowley punto, but i tell you, not one problem in 3 years of ownership from new !

Pulled up to a focus st in the car park today, really thinking about investigating the swop......

Your not having much luck with your car, or your dealer.

The focus ST may be no better though. I went to test drive a demonstrator and when I arrived they told me the battery was flat and that the computer would need to be re set on Monday! I didnt bother going back.

Yep, a mate of mine test drove a focus recently and on getting in he tried to adjust the steering column only to find it had sheared through the ignition and the car would not start. The sales guys face was rather red. Daft bugger still bought a focus but wants my civic.

Sorry to hear you're having problems. Hope you get them sorted soon.
