Lightbulb Advice from the AA Man

Had a flat battery after leaving the car at Stansted Airport for 7 days in what i believe very cold weather in the UK (HE-HE) Called the AA who were there within the hour and he said to me whatever you do, dont jump start the battery with the key in the ignition. Ugghhh!?(Scratching of head!!)
Yes according to Ben(very knowlegable AA Man) Recharge the battery with a battery charger pack (not a jump start from another car) without the key in the ignition as doing so would mean an expensive trip to the stealers to re configure both keys as jump starting with the key in the ignition would scramble the key code and render the keys useless. If in doubt call the AA !! Youve paid nothing for it !!

I wasn't aware of this. Cheers. Lets hope I dont forget...
Then again why did the battery run down in a week anyway? My dad's jag did the same and he wasnt happy about it (neither were the rest of the people hoping to get home with him!) but my old clio was fine when I got home...strange

Quite useful, I just don't get the idea why jump-starting by another car is not causing the same problem? Are chargers using AC? seems impossible...
