Thank you Pottsy. Very interesting photographs. This thread has been of much interest to many, I am sure, and we are probably all intrigued as to what the actual problem is with the current handbrake.

I did read the 'idiot's guide to handbrake operation' at my dealer yesterday though. |

I post again if and when I get a letter (which it sounds like I will). |

No, the handbook states:
"To apply the parking brake, pull the lever up fully. To release it, pull up slightly, push the button, and lower the lever". Page 171 in the 5 Door manual. On page 333 there are some tips for parking on slopes, including putting the car into opposite gear for the direction faced. It also says that one should set the parking brake firmly or "Your vehicle may roll if it is parked on an incline". Last edited by Cad : 6th December 2007 at 12:06. |

Thanks lee_g3. I am sure you will. I am just trying to identify a forum member who has an 08 model and to ascertain whether he/she receives the same letter. Inquisitive that's all.

Funny, the advice is on page 173 of my copy of the owner's manual. Never mind. Yes, I see your point Brodick, but I think there is only an inference one does not depress the release button as per the owner's manual, it does not state it categorically, whereas the latest advice, on the enclosed card and highlighted with a green tick, now includes the words, "without pressing or touching the release button". I think the latest advice has clarified beyond any doubt how the handbrake should be applied pending the recall and thereby avoids any ambiguity. I'm sure we will all comply (if we remember after all these years......) Last edited by Doubtingthomas : 6th December 2007 at 13:35. Reason: clarification |

I got 'the letter' yesterday recorded delivery.
It says that a new improved h/brake will come available March/April 2008 and Honda will make contact so that a new and improved h/brake lever can be fitted FOC by the local dealer ... we'll have to see if this happens I would not like to bet on the date! |
