Think whoever is in charge of the Honestjohn website needs to
do some real work and stop lifting info from here - relating to some cars

Thank you Pottsy. Very interesting photographs. This thread has been of much interest to many, I am sure, and we are probably all intrigued as to what the actual problem is with the current handbrake.

The apparent, complete ambivolence of Honda UK is a real concern... Although I've had similar experiences with FIAT UK in th enot too distant past...

Of note; threads linked from Honest John... Leaking boot and damaged paintwork...

Additionally... This thread, should I really be buying a car with such an apparent safety/build flaw, I have a young daughter and a very young son, I also have to park on my major slope of a drive... I now feel as though I'll be waiting for a crashing sound outside...

Hmmm... Might have a look elsewhere and NOT sign into problems as arranged on Saturday... Shame... Really liked the car too...

Sorry to 1st post on a downer...
Had my beauty since May and it`s wonderful in every respect and not one problem, most enjoyable car I`ve ever had.

has anyone got the letter informing them of the handbrake problem and how to use the handbrake properly?

I haven't, but I drive a company car so any bulletins take a tortuous route through my lease company first.

I did read the 'idiot's guide to handbrake operation' at my dealer yesterday though.

Just looked at the VIN, and in the middle it says 07, thought I was getting an 08 model (not that there is any difference on an ES, so I suppose it doesn't really matter).

I post again if and when I get a letter (which it sounds like I will).

No, the handbook states:

"To apply the parking brake, pull the lever up fully. To release it, pull up slightly, push the button, and lower the lever".

Page 171 in the 5 Door manual.

On page 333 there are some tips for parking on slopes, including putting the car into opposite gear for the direction faced.

It also says that one should set the parking brake firmly or "Your vehicle may roll if it is parked on an incline".

Thanks lee_g3. I am sure you will. I am just trying to identify a forum member who has an 08 model and to ascertain whether he/she receives the same letter. Inquisitive that's all.

Hi Brodick and Cad,
Funny, the advice is on page 173 of my copy of the owner's manual. Never mind. Yes, I see your point Brodick, but I think there is only an inference one does not depress the release button as per the owner's manual, it does not state it categorically, whereas the latest advice, on the enclosed card and highlighted with a green tick, now includes the words, "without pressing or touching the release button".

I think the latest advice has clarified beyond any doubt how the handbrake should be applied pending the recall and thereby avoids any ambiguity.

I'm sure we will all comply (if we remember after all these years......)

That's the thing. 30 years of doing it (what I thought was) the correct way, is going to be a hard habit to break.

I got 'the letter' yesterday recorded delivery.
It says that a new improved h/brake will come available March/April 2008 and Honda will make contact so that a new and improved h/brake lever can be fitted FOC by the local dealer ... we'll have to see if this happens I would not like to bet on the date!

I'm sure it will happen but you may have a point re the date, particularly after the further delay announcement on the software upgrade on the 06 i-shifts.
