I phoned Honda CS and asked about the letter which I have not yet received. They took the reg no and it appears that the dealership hadn't updated the ownership database to indicate that I owned the car. According to Honda, nobody owned the vehicle (note that this is different to the DVLA owner record). [Angie - more proof that our dealership is a bit rubbish!]

They also said that all letters have now gone out and that they are not going to be sending any more.

So, if you have not received a letter yet, please contact Honda customer service and ask why - you may find out that Honda don't know you own the car!

Would appear that the postal service in Sweden is more reliable than UK.

I formally e-mailed my dealer about the problem, maybe that is why??

Or maybe only some cars are affected.

I could arrange a copy for you if you want, but it is all the same as the English one.

They will send a new letter when the fix is available at the dealers.

The South African Connection

I finally got a response from Honda SA,

After writing a long letter to Honda SA, with reference to the Europe Recall saga, Honda SA finally sent me a humbled response. After their initial dimissive response to my handbrake failure and damage to my car in August, they've now turned around and apologised. Honda SA claim they were only made aware of the handbrake issue in December and are planning a similar operation with regard to sending out instructions on handbrake use and the upgrade to all Civic owners in SA later this month.

They also said they would fit the bill for the damage i incurred as a result of the handbrake failure. Its about time!

They went on to say that my handbrake failure was the only reported one in South Africa...I find that hard to believe.

I think this site and all our collective efforts have finally got Honda to pay attention and act.

Big up for Civinfo!!

Yes, good news that Honda are accepting that there is a problem, now they just need to fix it.

I got my car is back this evenng all fixed and clean and shiny

The chap who brought my car round for me parked it up and got out leaving the engine running on a slope for me to check it over. I jumped in it stuck it in gear, turned the ignition off and said, "Oh no you don't leave a Civic with out it being left in gear thank you, don't want it running away again!" Didn't get an answer to that I wonder why?!!

So I checked the car over very carefully as he went back into the showroom. I then had to go back inside to sign and to say I had collected the car and checked it over. I then walked out of the showroom got in car and drove off.

Wasn't until I had almost got home that I realised that they have swiped my Civinfo.com sticker Gutted!!!

It's an aquaintance from "ancient times" when most cars still had drum brakes at least at the rear, when you left such a car for the night in winter with the handbrake on you might not be able to use it the next day because the "jaws" froze tightly to the drums

Hi TruckerEm
Which R**** Honda garage was that, Trispen? if it was I'm not taking my car there !! You don't seem to have much luck with them and I would be hopping if that happened to me.. maybe Civinfo.com will send you a replacement sticker FOC ( if you ask nicely)

I'd still go in and ask why they saw fit to remove your property from the car.
