Yes you are correct with your guess I will get my the new handbrake fitted there and that will be it. I won't be using any of there garages in Cornwall or Devon again. For its service I will be arranging it when I go and stay with a friend further up the country.

As for my sticker have been told they are under warranty and will be sent another

Removing anything from a customers car without the owners permission is theft.

They also said that all letters have now gone out and that they are not going to be sending any more.

So, if you have not received a letter yet, please contact Honda customer service and ask why - you may find out that Honda don't know you own the car!

I didn't receive a letter either so its very possible the dealer hasn't updated the database with my details either.

How did you get in contact with Honda CS? I can't seem to find a phone number / e-mail address anywhere?...

Thanks

No worries, I found it earlier in this thread

01753 590760

I just phoned them and I am indeed registered as the owner of the car, and they can offer no explanation for not having received the letter!

Have you seen this one from the TOYOTA AURIS FORUM

[I have had my Auris T Spirt for just 8 days and exactly the same has just happened. My car was parked on my drive which has a slight incline, I too heard the car hooting only to find it on the opposite side of the road on my neighbours drive. It hit their car, but by good fortune it only encountered a minor scrath. I too had put my handbrake on and had been in the house for 10 minutes before it happened. I am booking it in straight away to be looked at.

I have also noticed that if you put the handbrake up tightly, and then return to the car a few hours later the handbrake feels loose and not as tight as you had left it????

So as per watchdog some manufacturers say press the button in on the handbrake and others dont

i.e read your handbook and follow the instructions

Yes, my handbook for the Civic says, [i]"to apply the parking brake, pull the lever up fully. To release it, pull up slightly, push the button, and lower the lever."[/I

There is an inference that one does not push the button in on applying the handbrake. If the original instruction in the handbook meant that you should not depress the button when applying the brake, then 'the letter' which many of us have since received merely reiterates the handbook.

If that is the case, why the need for a modification? This is why I have asked those members, (one or two) who have had the modified handbrake fitted, what instructions/advice have they been given as to the correct method of applying the modified handbrake. I have not received an answer.

Sorry not replied earlier. New Handbrake works fine (so far) Still a bit paranoid. No new instructions.... but I would say that if not pushing the button is the standard advice a specific statement to change that action would be required.
[i]"to apply the parking brake, pull the lever up fully.
I am assuming the 'do not' push button was whilst I had a old handbrake. Would not want to unduly wear the ratchet.

I know prevention of wearing ratchet is the reason why UK driving school teaches to push the button.

I've never seen or heard of any worn ratchet outside UK, although seen other things worn or broken.

Does really hand brake ratchet wear? Or is it just a myth UK driving instructors believe from a few incidents on a certain model long time ago?

Watchdog mentioned that it's actually not a part of driving test, although instructors do teach to press. Why what driving instructors say is believed to be true, while we don't like them much?

Thank you. I would have thought that having given specific advice as 'per the letter', on how to apply the handbrake pending modification, one would receive further specific advice after the fitting of the modified handbrake to avoid any ambiguity.

Both myself and several people I know have had some old worn out cars with all kinds of problems.

But a worn hand brake ratchet? No.

A correctly designed ratched will not wear out for a long long time.

There are cars with foot activated parking brakes that do not have a button, for example Mercedes and American cars. Do these have worn ratchets as a common issue?
No.

'Wearing ratchet' starts to look like a myth created by driving instructors...

Any driving instructor here can tell where they got the idea of ratchet wearing?
Is that in the textbook for driving instructors?
