Just as a matter of interest, dragonglance, which model, year and plate do you have and did you buy the car from new? Good luck with the scratches on the dash. Thanks.

....and was it from new? If you, as the registered keeper, had the car from new there is no excuse for you not receiving "the letter" from Honda UK re the recall. If you are not the registered keeper for any reason, or you are the second registered keeper, continuity can be easily lost because 'people' do not do what they are supposed to do......
However, the good news is that 'the system' has caught up with you and the handbrake will be sorted. Hopefully.......

Wow, the Azores, can't be too many Civics there!. Yes, as far as I am aware, one gets a complete handbrake assembly replacement, but what the actual difference is, I do not know, apart from hoping the replacement works!

The mechanism has been fixed/re-worked so that it will 'catch' if the handbrake is applied when using the button.

I have a 56 plate and phoned honda when i heard about this problem last month. They said mine was probably affected by the recall and would get a letter when the parts were available. As yet, i am still waiting for the letter.

I'm the second owner of the car (Honda themselves being the 1st). Should i chase this up or assume that no letter means i am not affected after all?

Best phone them I think. No news isn't always good news.
They are probably having a blonde moment.

They have only just been sent out to the dealers, so I am not surprised you have not had letter yet, there must be a lot to do. Just sit tight me thinks. It will arrive... Mine just happened to be at the dealers with other problems and they did it whilst it was there. Shame they did not fix the other problems I have though.

Mmmmm, not very satisfactory. Maybe 'tezwar' is right in what he says. OK, sit tight for a while but if you do not receive a communication to have the handbrake replaced under the recall programme I would write to Honda UK, quoting chassis number, registration number and date registered and ask them if your vehicle is affected by the recall. Insist on a written reply. I, like many others, have received "the letter" last December or thereabouts, but am still waiting for the actual job to be done.

All you have to do is phone your dealer and they will book it in for the handbrake to be done

That should be the case, I agree. However, we all know that unfortunately some dealers perform below par and by seeking clarification by letter from Hondas UK, who issued the original letter last November/December, Azbo will be safeguarding his interests. I still regard Honda's initial response as unsatisfactory. Azbo wants to know exactly where he stands and for Honda to say "probably" is simply not good enough. That is my opinion.

I only got my car in mid november, as i said its ex Honda owned. Is it possible that the fix may have been done already?
Though i suppose I still need to know for definate either way so I can get it sorted sooner rather than later.

I think I may be a bit paranoid abouth the handbrake after posting last night but...

Went from work at lunch time today, which is not something I do very often. Came back and parked it as usual, however when I got in after finishing work the handbrake lever was down! So I dont know whether I actually applied it or not. I always leave the car in gear anyway and dont usually park on any slopes but will have to keep an eye on it till i hear more from Honda.
