Yes, quite definitely. Just ensure you are in gear prior to switching engine off. The upper instrument panel will confirm whether you are in 1st in Auto, 1st in manual or in reverse. No problem.

I think it was the fact that at no time was the correct operating procedure for using the handbreak explained to us and it is supposed to be mentioned at least twice in the hand over of the vehicle. The dealer have been excellant, but I do think the level of response you get depends on your negotiating skills. By the way for everyones information when we spoke to trading standards they told us that as we had not yet started paying for the vehicle that we could cancel in writing our contract with the finance company and give the car back to the dealer. We would have been taken to court to sort it out but basically the product you purchase has to be safe and a dodgy handbreak is deemed as unsafe, especially as we were not told of the correct operation. To be totally honest if Honda think the breaks are safe why are they asking new customers to sign disclaimers. |

That disclaimer bothers me, I wouldn't be at all happy signing that when buying a new car, and it must have a big affect on your liability if the worst happened that one time you forget to leave the car in gear.

Just come back home from holiday yesterday and in the post waiting for me was the safety recall notice for the handbrake and door lock!!
I have booked my ES in with my dealer in Dobwalls 8AM on Monday 28th to get the work done ....at last . I havn't had a problem with it so far(as always left it in gear) until I parked the car after my journey yesterday and a few seconds after I applied the handbrake there was a crack and the car lurched forward -h/brake off. luckily it was in gear and it didn't hit the wall in front!!! I glad Honda are going to repair it soon |

have been to the dealer, he told me they still haven`t got a fix for the handbrake problem. if im reading correctly here , there are certain cars up for a recall/ or allready been fixt ( in the UK )
Got the letter for using 1e/reverse gear.... nothing else ( allready rolled downhill once, stopped in the middle of a busy street ) Question: Is there an official fix for it ( all over Europe ) |

I thought you were going to get it fixed up country as you had issues with R***s. I am also going to get them to look at my rear shocks as they make a hell of a racket on these Cornish roads. |

I got letter from Honda saying that 5 and 3 door models from 2006 and some produced in 2007 may have problems with handbrake and all cars from 2006 till 2008 should call service to make appointment so handbrake fix could be mounted....

Thank you ante00. Welcome to the club. I received my letter from Honda UK on 4th December, 2007, but still waiting for the actual job to be done. Like many others I presume. If you are not already doing so may I suggest you follow Honda UK's advice re the operation of the 'defective' handbrake until such time as it is replaced or it is confirmed your Civic is not affected (unlikely in my opinion). I know the actual replacement programme has started in the UK but I just wonder how Honda UK are administering the actual recall. Patience is a virtue I suppose.

As yet still heard nothing for Honda UK on the recall I spoke to a chap this evening who was delivering a hire car for my sister to our house. he saw my car parked up and said he really liked it and that they have Civics to hire out too. o of course i asked the question!! He knew nothing about the handbrake problem, so imagine how many of there hire cars could of rolled off if they are not telling the hirer that they must not touch the button and leave it in gear!! This was a large nationwide company. The chap was going to go back and speak to his area manager about it. He was most shocked when I said I was telling him from personal experience and knew of many others in the same postion as me. |

I have friend in my honda dealership and I phoned him should I call service since my car is end of 2007 and didn't have any problems with it and he said: "Mine is from begining of 2006 and didn't have trouble or problems with brake but I'll take it to our workshop so fix can be maid and you should do the same with your civic." He also said that all models form 2006 and 2007 should install fix with or without problematic handbrake and as you Doubtungthomas said nobody knows how much do you have to wait for fix and when will be available for all users....I'll call my service tomorrow and see if they have parts or when will they get them....

Took my ES in to my dealer today to get my front bumper replaced after a dog hit it. While it was there they did the modification on the handbrake and the door lock and the petrol cap flap too
I suppose I couldn't have everything, at least handbrake is sorted at last that is the main thing |

Got my letter on Saturday and its going in to have the handbrake and the door lock fixed on Friday at 8.30. The guy said it should only take a couple of hours, can those of you that have had both fixes done confirm this?
They have refused to loan me a car for such a short period, which is quite disappointing considering it's Honda causing me the inconveinence because they didn't design it right in the first place! There was me thinking I might get to try out the petrol Civic |

I'd like to say all sorted.....but
They had never heard of the radio problem....fortunately armed with a print out from Wiki I persuaded them it was a known problem and they are orderind a CD with radio software to update mine (and anyone else who goes to Arnold Clark Stockport) radio. |
