I was also taught to press button. pull up (til firm). release the release-button. and then pull up a further click or two.
But ANYWAY after reading my advice booklet. I have to admit there was one time where my civic did start rolling away... but that had more to do with me forgetting to put the handbrake on altogether |

Honda by sending out the intended recall and retrofit of a new hand brake lever, by thier action they have agreed that there is a fault, albeit a low amount to date of people with the problem, unlike yourself who seems to never have anything wrong with your car! So am I to understand that you will not be taking up the offer of the new lever? This recall/refit is a direct result of some of us standing up and shouting at Honda to put a fault right - we do not expect any thanks but we also do not want condescending remarks either!

Do you never give up !!!! You back Honda until your blue in the face, Honda have admit there is a problem end of story. Are you trying to insult people's inteligence by saying that they do not know how to apply a handbrake in an appropriate manner? |

TC think about it Honda are clearly stating that people should not hold the button in whilst applying the handbrake i.e they have found out that if you do apply the handbrake holding the button in it can release So what Honda are saying is that there is no problems if you apply the handbrake without holding in the button - then the handbrake will not release ( Keep in mind this is what Honda are saying) It would appear that quite a few people do not leave their cars in gear when parking on a hill ( if they had the cars would not have rolled) and so they are reminding owners to do this I was not insulting anyone - I was mearly pointing out the fact that Honda WILL ask for proof that the Handbrake was applied without the button being depressed and if the car was on a hill that it was left in gear if not Honda will defend themselves till they are blue in the face I would hope Mike had taken my comments as they were meant to be taken ( i,e as advice) and not any other way Yes Honda could have admitted they were looking into the issue but for reasons only known to themselves ( I would guess they wanted to have an answer before they made any comment) they didn't |

I got the letter today and I think i't ridiculous!! Telling us how to apply the handbrake
Besides, when I was taught to drive 18 years ago (and my wife 2 years ago) we was taught to hold in the button when applying and releasing the button!!! |

I am fairly confident that I know how to use a handbrake, and that it works. (I always leave the car in first gear just in case though!)
I am looking forward to reading Hondas a**e covering letter. |

Loch out below!!!!! Bad joke I know, sorry
But I agree, they must think we are dumb, they give us cars with top speeds of 120+++ Mph (that are huge lumps of metal capable of killing and maming easily), we are trusted to use them properly, but then they think we havn't got the brains to work the simplest thing on the car! Tom |

Rubbish - I didnt press the button whilst applying the handbrake and my handbrake has released three times so answer that one ! I think something has happened somewhere that we are unware of that has finally made Honda realise quite how serious this situation was becoming. We know that they have wriggled out of every claim made from people of this forum, refusing to accept any blame whatsoever so it makes you think what has actually happened for them to finally take action? Recorded Delivery letters too!!! Each time my car handbrake failed it was very quickly after applying it so I was in the car, if however I was one of many who had actually hit something I would most definately be taking action against Honda now for damages. |

I have always depressed the button when applying the handbrake and don't leave the car in gear as a matter of routine.
I've never had issue. My car is April 06 and supposedly bug ridden. I suggest human error is at fault hence Honda giving advice on handbrake usage. |

Rubbish CZ - obviously not every single car has been fitted with a faulty part same as the shocks, fuel filler cap, wipers, batteries, radios etc etc Well according to some if your car rolls down a hill now then its your fault for not leaving the car in gear. |
