I take your point but my attitude is that my local dealer represents and therefore is Honda, so I am sorry to repeat myself but one phone call and a new handbrake within 48 hours is my idea of service.
I wish you luck on your quest but with respect I feel that you are taking a very circular route when the solution is so simple.

I think you are being rather stubborn on this one.

Honda stated (to the best of my memory) in their original recorded letter that came with the new guide on how to apply the handbrake stated that the fix would allow you to apply the handbrake with or without pressing the button. Why do you need a new letter to state what the original letter said?

If I have miss quoted the original Honda letter, sorry, I binned mine after I had the fix done.

I have received a letter from Honda on 13th May informing me to book in the car to fix the handbrake problem. As this coincided with a service I did this and all is now OK. In this instance well done Honda !!

Alan,
Thank you. Rather stubborn - may be. I have retained the letter and enclosed instructions that I received 4th December 2007. There is nothing in my letter that states the fix would allow you to apply the handbrake with or without pressing the button.

It appears that other forum members are being contacted 'out of the anticipated March/April period' to have the work done. There is obviously a delay here, why I do not know but I did read somewhere that I think 69,000 Civics were involved, which is a lot of work involved, and expense.

It is nearly a fortnight ago that I wrote. I'll give them 14 days but I am like a dog with a bone......

one question.

Does it matter?? apply it without, like a majority of drivers do and you know you'll be fine.

Surely it dosen't matter which way you apply the handbrake if you leave it in gear

Well I had handbreak done this morning and it took just under an hour. They also did the drivers door recall job and sorted out the passenger door sticking.
But they said nothing showing up as wrong with the car not always starting first time, but to be honest this hasn't happened for a few weeks now so perhaps it was just a bit of dirty fuel
Excellent service from Marshall Honda Peterborough

Funny you should say about the passenger door sticking - is that the handle, when its ready hard to push in to open the door?

Mines started doing it, and was wondering whether to bother taking it into the dealers or not.......

Handbrake self release

I went to Honda (Ewell) today for a part, while there I asked about the handbrake & they checked my reg number on the computer to see if it had been done or not , when they saw it had not they said for me to book the car in to be done. so it seems if you go and ask them they will do it

Well, hooray! This morning I received the letter dated 15th May from Honda UK, advising me to contact my local dealer to replace the affected handbrake.
This letter is the follow up letter, which everyone has either or is receiving, that I was promised in December last, not in direct response to my letter I sent them 5th May, bless 'em. It is a nice letter nevertheless.

I shall report further.

My handbrake unclicked itself on saturday. I pulled up outside my mates house, put the handbrake on (I admit I used the button) and a couple of seconds later its snapped down (rather viciously may I add). You need to follow the instructions that Honda have sent round for sure, I know I will be from now on.

Do we take it that your handbrake has yet to be replaced? Let's hope so

I've recieved my letter yesterday.
What make me mad, is the fact I've spoken three weeks ago with the manager about that and he did'nt have any clue about when the recall would take place in France. So I did my 40 000 km service three weeks ago and now I've to go back to my dealer 70 km from where I'm living...

Do you thing I can ask honda to pay my expenses :
20 € for toll and gazoline + 3 hours at 45 € for my salary ( the ratio they ask me to pay for the handwork)
= 20 + 135 = 155 € ?

I received both letters, and I had my handbrake replaced and door latch problem both fixed in under an hour.
