because I am a member of a spanish forum Clubhondacivic.com and a girl posted a message saying her car crashed into a neighbours car... after I asked when she bought the car and she told me it is a 2.2 Sport from April this year...

I bought a Civic 07 model 2 months ago and today I've also received a recall letter from Honda Belgium. I have just over 2000 miles on the counter and have never experienced any problems with the handbrake. When parked I leave the car in first gear just to be safe...
I don't think it's an urgent matter so I'll wait to have it fixed until the first service which is at about 7500 miles (10.000 kms). When I asked my dealer about the handbrake recall a month ago, they were unaware of any problems with it... Yeah, right. It seems that they knew about already a long time ago, but because they won't upset the customers they wait until it becomes official... Last edited by nico651; 21st May 2008 at 19:22. |

Un momento, just because the girl's car crashed into a neighbour's car does not necessarily mean the handbrake failed, Perdon! We need to know more facts, por favor. (please excuse my Spanish In particular was the handbrake still "on" after the 'crash' or was it in the "off" position. If the handbrake was still in the "on" position it looks like an example of 'disc cooling' syndrome. There are many post about this earlier in this thread. If the handbrake was in the 'off' position after the crash, although it is an 08 model, it may indicate there was a fault with the handbrake. I'm sorry to hear of the incident but my gut feeling is the handbrake was found to be still 'on' after the crash, presuming of course that the driver applied the handbrake in the first place. I hope it is all sorted to everyone's satisfaction. Well done United!!!! Last edited by Doubtingthomas; 21st May 2008 at 23:32. Reason: Grammar |

Hi Left my car in yesterday for first service, and they did the Handbrake fix , but I noticed now that there is a lot of movement in the lever itself, its rocking side to side quite a bit, and also there is a bit of slack in it before it starts to take up on the cable (really does feel different), does this sound right?? They also said there was a recall on my 2007 to have a fix done to the inside drivers door handle, when I asked them what is was, they said it had something to do with the boot opening

Doesn't sound right to me. Mine was done last week and feels, looks and operates as it did before albeit with a more positive ratchet. I don't know what the door mod was but they did something as they forgot to reset the auto function on the drivers' window.

Just read through some of this, I always press the button in when pulling up the handbrake, never had any problems.
Does this affect MY08? not had a letter. |

A little bit taken back,as was'nt expecting that to have happened .I think, technically I should have been asked first(it is my property)To be honest ,I would rather the handle had been left alone. It's ok,but is definitley slightly notchy, which it was'nt before. If the fix revolves around a safety issue fair do's. |

I'm having the handbrake replaced next Tuesday, although I have never experienced any problem with the present one. There have been a few forum members who have reported a 'slackness' in the actual fitting of the replacement handbrake and a 'slack' in the cable when operating it. Sounds like adjustment to me, but I am no mechanic.
I shall enquire re the driver's door fix also. Was there not a similar issue with the passenger door? |

What exactly is wrong with the drivers door handle? My car is at the dealers right now and they have replaced the handbrake but have not mentioned anything about the drivers door...
My car is a 06 2.2EX Thanks |

mmm would prefer to have that done too, but they did not mention it (although I have also had no problems with my boot opening) Maybe I should call them about that too.

Very little sideways movement when off (and that's only noticeable at the button end) and it only pulls up a short distance before it's firmly on (3rd notch). Total travel of button end of lever from off to on is only about 50 mm. |

I too have had the handbrake replaced earlier today. I had no problem with the 'defective' one. The replacement shows no movement whatsoever sideways and I cannot pass the third notch when applying it. If my memory serves me right, I would say the replacement has a slightly different colour to the plastic moulding - it appears a slightly darker shade of grey.
The very helpful guy in Service explained the modification and to my specific question, advised that one should not depress the button when applying the handbrake |
