I will ring the dealer on Monday, I wonder how long it takes to book the car in.
To book the car in - two minutes at the most. To have the modified parking brake fitted maybe one to two hours according to other forum members who have had the job done. May be even quicker. Good luck, at least Honda UK has written to you.....

I've just come back from holiday and found a letter from Honda waiting for me. Thankfully the car performed brilliantly while away so I'll get it sorted at the dealer asap.

On the discs cooling, the pads no longer grip the disc and with the car not being left in gear, on an incline, disaster takes over.

It is a known phenomenon, which we should all be aware of, but not a fault as such. That is my understanding, unfortunately for 'deam2k5'.
If there is another explanation which points to a definite 'fault' I and no doubt 'deam2k5' would like to hear of it.

It is so easily done and I feel for 'deam2k5'
I would fully agree with your explanation
And indeed, the whole phenonemon (sp?) of cooling brake discs is a reasonably well known one.

However, this thread in particular is in reference to the 'other' problem with the handbrake system, whereby the ratchet mechanism self releases (and therefore releases the brakes) resulting the the handbrake lever being found in the down position, not still in the up position

which is what I think mrh was referring to

They said should take about an hour.

Why do you despair?? The handbrake design is and pretty much always has been a ratchet system which in my mind means you pull up the handbrake and it runs through several clicks as the cog/teeth etc click into place and lock the brakes into place.

If Honda have advised people to apply the brake by not using the button one can only assume that this is to avoid anyone who HASNT had the upgrade fitted applying the handbrake incorrectly. Its obviously not a case of not having faith in a product at all.

All you do is phone your dealer and they book you in and replace the handbrake, so where is the problem.?
I`ve just had a first service and the handbrake was replaced. No problem at all

NHDan said one can assume - that was my reply ASSUMING IS NOT KNOWING THE TRUE FACTS so stop trying to be clever.

If people are being told NOT TO PRESS THE BUTTON when applying the handbrake AFTER the fix then they are obviously not confident in their fix.

I have always, and will always press the button.

It's second nature and the ratchet noise is only second to fingernails on a blackboard for me - horrible noise.

If you do press the button then always press down on the lever to ensure it's properly engaged and select the appropriate gear.

Obviously.

I don't think i'll bother trying to assist any further with this matter as the likes of TC and a few others obviously take great delight in undermining any vaguely posistive steps that one takes to help out.

Do what you want with your handbrake, I know that mine has been fixed and I know how I apply it. Mine has never rolled away and am damn sure that it wont. I also don't need to be told in writing how to do it.

Some critics..........I have run Honda's for too many years I care to remember. I still support the marque, although my confidence has been somewhat dented of late. As far as this thread is concerned all I am trying to do is to get Honda UK adhere to it's promise. That's all, is that too much to ask for?

What promise. If you mean a replacement handbrake then just do as I did which was to phone my dealer to arrange to bring the car in and it was fitted without any delay or problem. It was that easy.
