Gap insurance etc

Pick up my new CTR GT on Thursday. The sales person is trying to flog me Gap Insurance. Have any of you got it and is it worth it. He also bangs on about applying a protective film to the rear screen to aid water displacement. Any good?

I think gap insuance is a good idea becoause you never know what might happen.

Not really sure about the protective film im sure rain-x will probably do the same if not a better job and only costs a fiver a bottle

I suppose it depends how much they are after for it.

I took it out on mine. They charged me £320 for 3 years cover and that also included Auto Glyn treatment to inside and outside of car, on delivery, and also a very large Auto Glyn pack (which I have seen in Halfords for around £60).

I thought it well worth it for that price, as if it were to be written off or stolen within the 3 years, I can just go back to Honda and pick up a brand new car.

Saying that, I was also looking at a Vauxhall Astra VXR before buying the Honda, and they wanted almost £800 for the same GAP insurance!

They want £395 for three years. No freebies though. Just may have to do some bargaining. My friends got the same insurance for a Merc, £230. Seems to differ all over the place.

There is quite a bit of information on here about Gap Insurance. Use the search function. £395 is too much and they will come down in price if you question why it is so much compared to other Honda dealers. Regarding the rear screen I use RainX and it keeps mine clear.

Collected my car Oct 26th 2007. From Holdcroft Honda Stoke on Trent. I was originally offered it for £300 but when I questioned it the price was dropped to £250. Good luck with your haggling!!!

Was offered GAP for £295 with 'free' AutoGlym Lifeshine finishing on the car (2.2 CDTi, Black, bought end Oct). Also included a large kit of AutoGlym products in a big bag. I took up the offer since it seemed like reasonable value, and I want as much help as possible to keep the black paint clean. You can also get both independently on the net.

Visited my pet stealer today. He would not budge on the Gap Insurance price of £395. When I mentioned other owners who got great discounts and other goodies, he merely stated that was impossible as its a set Honda price and not in a dealers hands as to the charge. He did say that maybe the other owners paid for it in some other way!!!! Come the day of the revolution brothers, my wall is getting bigger, I will need a machine gun!!!lol

Check your car insurance policy. I'm covered for the first twelve months on their new car scheme. If my car is stolen and not recovered or written off, they will replace it with another brand new one. They offer this cover to the first registered keeper of any car. It's exactly what the gap insurance offers but only for one year. Just a thought.

I have use the GAP insurance from Honda, it basically covers you for up to 7 days for FREE. You can then either leave it or take it up for the whole year. Honda use Zurich Insurance. I found them expensive so did nt bother, its quite good as you can shop around for a better deal, and quite handy if your car arrives when you least expect it to!

My Insurance with Liverpool and Victoria had twelve months GAP cover included but I didn't know until I canceled to go with SAGA which is two years cover. Only for over 50's though. Previously had Honda GAP three times but always sold before the three years so lost out on that as well. Would look into other policies if you can, they dont always advertise there is GAP built in. It really all depends how long you intend to keep the car.
cnicolini isn't talking about GAP I think he's talking about 7 Day Driveaway complimentary cover from Honda ?????

You are talking about the Complimentary 7-Day Driveaway insurance,
Gap insurance is different, basically covers the difference between the amount your insurance pays on total loss of your car and the amount you paid for it. (hope that makes sense)
