Is it worth to wait for civic 2008 instead of 2007 ???

Hi,

I am thinking of buying a civic in a few days but my dealer only has 2007 version. He says that 2008 version will be available in a couple of months. I am in Spain. What do you think? Is 2008-version worth the wait???

I want a 1.8 EXECUTIVE GREY GALAXY.

Thanks

I would wait. Cause if you get the 2007 now the price will go down as soon as the 2008's come out .

I think it is worth the wait. However, wouldn't you get a 2008 model if you ordered something they don't have in the showroom? Like I did, I specially ordered a 1.8 executive in NHB but with a beige interior ( which looks fantastic) and as it wasn't something they usually stocked they had to order it so it took a lot longer than normal.

Telling me the wait was long! I waited and I got it yesterday and to be honest I am impressed with how well it looks. I will post some photo's soon and you will see how nice it is. Here is Poland a lot of people seemed to have bought NHB with the dark interior as normal. When the dealer rang to tell us our car was here he was estatic with praise for the colour co-ordination of our car. I was told that they have been showing our car to many potential clients because they all think it looks amazing.

Well, given the number of faults and construction mschiefs (as the suspension probs in 2006 and early 2007 models) etc. - it is almost certainly a wise decision to wait

(almost cause they can still make new mistakes can't they?

Could you please give more information about that faults and construction mschiefs? Which is that suspension problem?

Do you think that handbrake problem will be fixed in 2008 versions?

Thanks for the information.

Thanks for the information.
There were several issues with early models, leading to a recall regarding the rear shock absorbers (described in detail elsewhere on Civinfo), and a bit later another issue (mailny with Diesel) was with the front bump stops coming loose repeatedly. I am no engineer but to my reckoning the front suspension has probably been designed for the (lighter) petrol engines and the diesels got the same construction later, not taking into account the added weight of the diesel engine (by the way, the suspension is from Sachs not from Honda). What seems to confirm this is that the diesel tends to nose-dive to the ground on bad roads (mine does so at 10-15km/h which is definitely not normal). Honda is now replacing the front suspension with a firmer one for customers who complain about this. Probably, the cost of replacing the suspension in all Diesels would be very high and as customers in Western Europe have predominantly good roads they will not notice anything's wrong, hence no official recall. You can tell which suspension you have by looking at the rubber parts (visible from the side at the top of the struts) - yellow = old version, white = new version. Dealer says new iCTDI and type-R come with the new ones factory fitted already.

Hope it's helpful

Thank you very much.

I am buying a 1.8 Exec (petrol) so I wouldn't have that issues related with suspension. I think that I am buying because the dealer will have the car in one or two weeks. If I wait for the 2008 version it will take several months and the dealer will not keep the offer.

Unless you’re really desperate I would wait but if the deal is at stake then go for it now. Which ever car you get it won’t be new for long. Live for the moment!

Now I know that dealers have 2008 versions ready to be sold!
Some dealers told me that it would take 2 months or more because they wanted to sell their 2007 version desperately.

Thanks anyway.

Don’t believe anything a sales person tells you unless they can show you actual proof. They are driven to sell and must shift old stock at the best price.

Does anyone know what changes have been made to the 08 Civic? Has it had face lift or just minor fixes to address all the know problems. I’m due to change my car in 2010 so not affected anyway but wonder what the Civic will look like by then.

The design is the same. There is no aesthetic changes but:

- 2.2 engine has been optimized for less noise and a lower consumption.
- the lower part of the vehicle has been slightly changed for safety purposes. So Euroncap test has gained 2 points but it still needs one point to reach the 5 stars!! Check the www.euroncap.com website for more info.
- Footrest has been changed for the same reason and mats are different.
- Some changes about suspension has been applied to support worse roads.
- Vivid blue color has been removed and tangerine orange has been added.

I am sure there are a lot of more points but they are confidential and we will never know.
What I don't understand is why they haven't changed the dashboard. It is very easy to be scratched and many people complain about it.

Regards

Humano!

Get the 2008MY and check the VIN!

If you don't like the dash, change it like I (and some others) did on this forum! Looks superb, scratch and dust free! A dream!

Is it just a straightforward request at the dealer to have this done or is it a Honda CS battle Does the matt finish dash still squeak like a demented mouse with his nuts trapped in a zip
