The Civic paint and dash put me off, but I could get the Type R dash fitted as part of any deal if I mention it could be a deal breaker. Nothing I can do about the paint tho.

The Leon is good and about 2k cheaper but rock ard ride and interior is average.

Mondeo has loads of torque and is very comfy with Recaro seats, but even at 15k for a year old one, saving 8k off new, it'll loose at least 5-6k in the next 2 years.

The ST popped it's name on the list now and again, thinking the money saved over the above diesels will fund the fuel bills, but I found my sensilbe head and crossed it off.

I'm off to the pub now. Prob talk about cars

Merry christmas all.
I just swapped my Civic Type-S 2.2 CDTi for a Mondeo ST TDCi and the Mondeo is a much much better car. I know thats not going to be a popular opinion on here but its how i feel.

I had no major issues with the Civic, but the rattles, the poor quality plastics, the hashness of the ride and the lack of "toys" compared to the Mondeo means i'm a lot happier now than i was in the Civic.

And so as you know i picked up a May 06 ST TDCi with 7500 miles on the clock, xenons and parking sensors for £12,800.

Wink

Must just add my "four penneth!"

I keep reading about the harsh ride and have to say, in MHO, the comments are unfounded.
I too was concerned having read many reports, but having had two previous Civics [both of which were exemplary in every respect], I was greatfully persuaded to get the Type R by my son.
At the time he had one of the last Escort Turbos. Now that IS a harsh ride!
I have done nearly 2.000 miles and absolutely love it. All types of roads and speeds!!
Notice that the ride is firm, but never hard and harsh.
I'm 6' and 14 stone, about average and fit OK, although the sides can press a bit if I am on my own and driving for the pleasure.
Do not be put off by any comments relating to the ride.
I cannot comment on an ST as I have not driven one, but they are just so PLAIN!

Hmmm yes the Mondeo ST's are fabby cars! Good choice I approve, cause quite frankly I would have one. I can't wait until the new one gets the petrol ST treatment. That will be another great car, even if it is a Ford

I have always liked the ST Mondeos as well.

How do the Honda and Ford engines compare for smoothness , economy and performance ?

We're in the process of swapping our 3.0 V6 Vectra, which we bought after considering the Mondeo. The 3.0 engine IMO is better than the Mondeos, although the Mondeo did have the edge as far as handling other than that not a lot of difference between the cars, but the Vectra was cheaper.

However, we are now changing the Vectra for the Civic EX icdti and IMO it will be money well spent as the Civic is a cracker.

You should be asking yourself while you've only paid £12,800 for this Mondeo? They loose there money so quickly, Honda will have a better resale value. Dont get me wrong, I have owned many Fords but thought that I'd give the Japanese a go, as they always come first for relaiblity. If I was to buy a Ford again I'd buy the New Focus RS when it comes out (300bhp), as I have already owned an old RS Turbo a few years back.
