Have you driven one?
Anyway, As I've stated in a couple of previous posts, I love the Focus ST. Very nearly bought it but the mileage I was doing made me put my sensible head on!! Diesel Focus or diesel Civic? Civic for me! Focus ST or any Civic? Focus ST for me I'm afraid! I test drove a number of hot hatches and though I thought the Golf GTI was the better car - I actually preferred the character of the Focus ST. And heres a statement that's gonna get me in trouble! - I'm not interested in the Honda VTEC engines because of the lack of torque.... And before I get a whole barrage of replies - this is purely my opinion and no one elses. Some people like the character of the screaming VTEC engines, some people hate the Focus - everyone is entitled to their own opinion!!! |

I actually prefer the T5 engine in a Volvo, My Mum had a V70 T5 before. I looked at the Focus ST, glad I didn't buy one for the fact that its about to be face lifted in January!
I wouldn't have the Focus over the Civic. My mate who drives a Focus ST, you know the bright orange one, because he runs one of the Local Ford Garages loves my CTR and prefers it to his Focus! Good point about the ST? You can have one within 5 days of placing your order! But hey, it wouldn't do if we were all the same would it? |

The ST 225 should be a brilliant drive but it will cost you an absolute fortune to run in fuel, tyres and depreciation. Not too keen on the looks of the ST myself.

For my company car I had a monthly lease budget and interestingly this would allow a Focus ST, Golf GTi, Type R GT amongst many others. I binned the ST and the GTi as the boot just isn't big enough. In addition the ST's fuel consumption was less than palatable. The Golf would have been fairly basic in spec. The Type R was disregarded because I couldn't live with the ride which in my opinion is poor compared to the Golf and Focus ST, but for me the CTR just looks fantastic and I was so sad that I couldn't live with the ride. What's bizarre is that even though I could afford the ST, CTR and GTi I couldn't afford a Civic 5dr EX diesel with glass roof and leather I'm a big fan of torquey engines having had a Golf 16v 8 injector turbo, a rather nice 3.6litre Porsche 993 and now own a 225bhp VX220Turbo as a toy. I was of the opinion that I wouldn't like the revvy nature of the VTEC but have to say I do like the VTEC experience so far (1700miles in 3weeks) and the engine is loosening up nicely however I can completely understand why people like the diesel or light pressure petrol turbo's as it is a nice feeling wafting along on a blanket of torque. Of all the petrol 4 pots I have driven the VTEC is by and far the best and only an Alfa 4 pot comes close. Everything else has an inbuilt harshness and coarseness to it. For me the 1.8EX fits the bill as my daily hack however if I didn't own my own fun car I may well have made a different choice. John |

Purely out of boredom yesterday I picked up a copy of Auto Express.
In the back is all the cars and a 'list price' and 'expect to pay price'. In all cases the difference for the Ford Focus was about £6K ! Is that right or a complete misprint for the whole of the Focus range ? |

They stopped making the ST around Sep/Oct and if you were lucky enough, it was possible to get a fully loaded ST3 for around £17k!!!! Needless to say they sold quick! I also know someone who was thinking of getting a new 2.0 tdci Titanium (top spec Focus) worth around £18k for about £13k!!! |

Point taken
I say it is the other way around, Volvos now being rebagded Fords. Many new Volvos have lousy quality, but still have some of that premium-ish feel to the interior. Which the Focus does not. I have not driven the ST, but a few other Focuses (or is that Foci???) and in my not so humble opinion they are some of the worst stuff I have driven. I actually prefer the Fiesta. |

My Mate has now requested that I keep my car out of view when I pop in to see him there as they like to come out and have a wee sit in it and fiddle around with it. Needless to say they ain't getting a shot of my pride and joy.......well not yet, i'll wait till the weather is better |

ST is a hell of a car!
I've test driven it a year ago, brakes, grip, acceleration, what else can I say... BUT fuel consumption was 25 lt /100 km !!! Running costs are very expensive. I have a friend - Ford technician - he told me that the brake pads (4-pot) cost 700 euros (Impreza' s pads cost 1500 euros |

I actually nearly placed an order for the ST but then the Civic came along and the rest is history.
I do however think they are a pretty good car, just a little dull to look at. |

I love it when I go with my Mum to Adsa and there is about 6 Orange ST's parked in the car park..........I can just see the guy convincing his wife when ordering that Orange is the best colour cause you'll be able to spot it straight away when you come out the shops, him and the other 5! I must admit that if they were to bring out a RS version (which I believe is too expensive for Ford to make) then I would defo consider getting rid of the CTR for it. Hmmm or how about the FF Cabro with the ST engine, just like VW have the R32 engine in the Eso, that would be fantastic! |

You spoke too soon!!! Ford look like they are going ahead with the RS - but from what I've heard it's gonna be FWD (madness with 280bhp!!!!). But considering the performance gains that can be got out of a ST just by remapping (i.e. higher bhp than the proposed figures for the RS), I wonder what's the point of a FWD RS? If the new RS was a 4WD beast then that could have been a true successor to the old Cossies? |

They said before that it was going to cost about £40k to produce a Focus RS like the last one. I'm guessing that this RS will just be a sooped up version of the ST and not a true RS. |
