Dealership order procedure details

I've signed an agreement with my dealership for a Civic Type R early December. At my request the delivery date was set to late February. My main motive for this is that I prefer to get an '08 model instead of an '07 model.

Now, I was wondering whether they have ordered it already and of course whether it is an '08 model.

Has anyone tried to find out their chassisnumber prior to having their Civic delivered?

Wondering on the same thing.

How can you tell that the car is a 2008 model and not a 2007 one?

By one (or 2) digits in the chassisnumber. Chassisnumbers that start with a 'S' are cars produced in Swindon. Numbers that start with a 'J' are produced somewhere in Japan. There is also a number to determine the type of transmission etc...

Now one of these numbers represent the buildyear. I've got a printout of the orderstatement from my dealer. Does anyone know what MTOCE means? I'll post the number in a few minutes

My MOTCE code: FN2368E KG 4C CM PS8

The number posted above is not a chassisnumber but some sort of code. I'm still trying to figure out what it means. You maybe right. Then again there's another 8 in that code

I don't have an MOTCE number anywhere on all my paperwork so presume it's something to do with exporting the vehicle.

I'm guessing it is an internal Honda code for representing a type R. I am going to call Honda belgium tomorrow to find out. I don't know, however, if the code holds some more interesting information.

I bought my type S late December, I ordered mats for it and was told that I would have to wait for them to come in as the only ones thy had in stock were for a 07 model and the 08 was a different mat.

@Gracey. That would mean future owners should be getting '08 models as well. Unless Honda were stockpiling Type R's and or other models.

I'm eager to get to the bottom of this

Don't think so because the type R bit is already in your vin and the MOTCE as FN2, I think it is probably some sort of export docket number. MOTCE = "Motor vehicle Certificate of Export" or something similar comes to mind.

Even if you took delivery now, it would almost definately be an 2008 model. I don't think Honda have Tyre R's stockpiled anywhere.

Have a look at this link in the wiki it will explain where to look for the year of manufacture.

What does FN2, FK2 etc mean? - Civinfo Wiki

your dealer will definately know the vin number before the car arrives. the build date is about the 6 or 7 number in the vin code and will be 07 or 08 got mine on 4th jan 08 and mine was an 08 build so you should have no worries. there is really no difference to the old 07 just a slight change in the driver side footwell so make sure you order the 08 mats to ensure that they fit correctly. and good luck with your purchase.

Generally speaking, manufacturers tend to sell the "08" model way before they actually get to 2008. Chances are, most of you guys that have purchased in the last few months will be "08" MY's.
