New or used
I'm looking at a new Civic and was wondering what the thoughts are of new vs used? Obviously new would be nice, but there's a big saving on the earlier cars.
Are there any issues with the early cars that aren't covered on the warranty? Sounds a bit like some of the issues never really get fixed. Obviously cars that are 1-2 years old with low miles make you wonder why the owner let them go. But a used example is a saving of £3-5000. Ian |

If you can afford a new ( 08 ) car, go for it.
I think a number of things have been improved in the car, and it sounds like there were quite a few 06 cars with problems. Read more about the Civic in general in the Wiki: Main Page - Civinfo Wiki |

First one I purchased was new. Loved the smell and the feeling that I had a brand new car. Second one was a six month old pre registered with 10 miles on the clock. Same new smell, not quite as new but much much cheaper! I usually get pre registered cars, but the first time around there were not that many, hence splashing out on a new one. I am sure if you search you will find some bargains.

thanks for the advice, guess I'll judge every deal as I see it, pre-reg seems a good option. I'd struggle to afford a top spec car new, but could afford a used one. I'll probably end up making a choice between a high spec used car or a pre-reg lower spec car. Hopefully most issues on a used one would show up on a thorough test drive. I'll have to see what the local dealers have in (Blackpool & Lancaster Honda). The prices of private sales on Autotrader is very tempting though!
Thanks for the links, the Wiki is great, looks like I've got some reading to do. Last edited by ianjoyner; 5th February 2008 at 23:11. |

So now is the time to buy a new car at cost price as Honda are pushing dealers to move the metal. Go in and demand a discount of 11-14% and see what deal you can get. If they wont do it walk away to a dealer that will.
