Exclamation What's a fair price ?

Hi. All
I`m in the mood to buy a new civic. I`m after the 1.8 petrol ES with glass roof. I don`t specificaly want leather and would be happy with standard wheels, though I would like metalic paint (maybe blue). I have no trade in so will be paying cash. In Dec 07 my local stealer gave me a price list showing this spec. as £16,552; I would expect some sort of discount, but what would be a reasonable price for me to pay? Any ideas?
Thanks

Aim for a discount of at least 10%. Try for a bit more. I has been reported that honda dealers are under pressure to move the metal this month so good luck and bargain hard!

Dont use it as bait as you can do much better than that.

You will be lucky to get anything under £15,800!

Most Honda dealers seem to have the "If you don't buy it the next person will" attitude!

I thought all dealers work on 3 month reg cycles so if March is weak you will get a good deal next month (and the new reg)

When did you get yours? Mind you dealers and prices change all the time. All i know is when i got mine drivethedeal were the best and i tried 3 dealers before getting anywhere near the deal price.

Thanks to all that replied; I think it is probably a good idea to have a drivethedeal or similar quote up the sleeve to be played if the main dealer`s price is higher. If he`s lower, say nowt.

Of course the main dealer will be higher, they always start at list price, if you want a good price you have to work for it.

My experience was different at 2 dealers.

Dealer 1 went down the RRP route and let me walk out.

Dealer 2 offered a £1K discount plus - gave me £800 more P/X than dealer 1.

I had no problem signing.

If pre-registered is an option.. I got a NHB 1.8ES for around £14000 with delivery mileage of about 15 miles. But then again I was trading in a car and it is the difference in price that is the significant factor, I had to work hard to get the offer on the trade in upped to a reasonable level, and even after improving it by £1500 it was not the best.

I was just saying that if you wait a couple of weeks, you will get the new reg (worth more) and deals shouldn't be worse as dealers work in 3 month cycles.
