Angry Grrr.. dealer supplied wrong mats! What should I ask for?

I recently became the proud owner of a Type S GT .

When I haggled for the car I asked for the Honda fitted mats to be thrown into the deal. The salesman seemed a little reluctant, but I pushed for them and he agreed on the phone, and I confirmed this with him when I went in to sign the papers.

To cut a long story short, my car was delivered without the mats and it's taken several weeks of to get hold of them. But now I find that they're the wrong ones! They're carpet mats, and the driver's mat has two fixing holes spaced quite far apart (say 40cm or so), but my Type S has two mounting points close together (around 15-20cm), and it doesn't fit.

I recently read somewhere on here about there being different fixing points on newer/older Civics... what year/model of mats should I be asking for, when I ring up the manager and complain ?

The dealer/sales-rep has really messed me about, and I'm amazed they'd risk tarnishing their reputation and lose further business from me for the sake of £60-worth of mats on a £14000 car! I'll be posting a write-up of the process, and a review of the dealer when I finally get what I asked for!

The car itself is fantastic! And up until the saga with the mats, I thought the dealer was too!

There is a differenace in the shape of the foot rest in 06/07 compared to 08 cars.

Check the VIN to determine which model year you have.

That's a problem for the dealer to solve I guess, it's unpedagogical to make their work for them. If they've agreed to deliver mats, they should deliver them - and the right ones.

Not having the mats myself - but from memory, isn't there a bracket missing?

Something which screws to the floor (using the 2 holes 15cm apart) and ends up with 2 lugs (40cm apart) for the holes in the mat?

Although the above points about the mats changing is entirely correct

You know I have said that polish dealers aren't as good as english ones but now I am not sure. I got everything I had ordered on the day I picked up the car. The only thing I had a problem with was the sports gear knob which had been sent for the i-shift version not the manual. But that was actually an error from the stock - I saw the order form and it was the correct order number just the wrong item sent!

I must give my Polish dealer top marks - they are really good!

I think the situation is generally improving in Poland, the only real problem you get is when it comes to electronics, the ones who really have a clue about it are very rare indeed (because many have emigrated). Another limiting factor is that full service manuals are available in English, the translation into Polish comes 1-2 years later.

I guess if I have a problem I will just have to get my wife to translate the english into polish for them.

However, in my dealership the owner can speak very good english - he was in Canada for many years and learned the language. Maybe that helps things as they are considered to be the best dealer in my city - as far as honda goes that is.

07 my and 08 my cars have different fixing points AND different mats for each generation, the dealership should be aware of this. However, its an easy mistake to make, the parts dept more than likely gave the wrong mats to the salesperson to hand over as the 08 mats have been in short supply.

Quite simply, ring the dealer, explain the problem and request the correct mats to be supplied. shoudln't be a problem at all.
