timing is everything...

OK, here's one for y'all

Just had a letter from my lease co, telling me I can order my next car

(Jury is out at the mo - another 5dr EX, or an S GT )

But - I'm trying to work out the best timing...

This car's lease runs out mid August, so whatever happens, can't have a new one till then.

However, I can order any time from now, right up until mid July. However, with a bit of "umming" and "can't quite decide"ing, I could order as late as just a few days before mid Aug, as long as the new one arrives within 3 months (max I'm allowed to extend the contract).

I don't think that is going to end up being late enough to get an MY09, however much I dither about - but thought I'd chuck it out there for comment

If your current lease runs out mid Aug and the max extension is 3 months you have no chance of a MY09 as that's 6 1/2 moths. Go for a 1st September reg for a MY58

Well 3 month extension on August would be Mid November??? MY09 will be avalible from Mid October 2008, so if there was a delay on the car (which probably would happen) then he would probably end up with one

Ca'nt speak for the EX,but comparing my previous ES to my Type S,the steering and handling really are a fair distance apart. The Type S really sharpens up at speed and have never really had to 'back off' with the car as I sometimes had to,say on a country road with the ES.

If you don't need 5 doors,absolutley no question(imo)-Type S !

TT - there's no need for 5 doors! MCH spent ages showing me how much easier 3 door were in reality...

SGT, no question. Better handling, better looks.

LOL

heart definately says S - dropping daughter off on the way to dropping wife off each morning says 5dr...

No R? - no 5th seat...

My thinking is - if I order on or around Mid Aug, what are my chances of them not starting to build it until October (MY09)...

All that said, I guess it also depends on what we're expecting to see as a difference between '08 and '09 specs

Car is on a personal plate so the plate 'age' isn't an issue

Its all really about timing and availability.

If you order/request a car as far away as August then most leasing companies will want you to get the lastest available plate anyway as its theirs when it comes back and a newer plate will have a higher (however marginal) residual value. Secondly, again, if Honda UK have a field full of NHB Type S's MY08 and you order a NHB Type S then unless you/they specifically request a MY09 then you'll be getting a MY08. The lease company will want you in your new car asap rather than waiting.

The EX has quite a bit more equipment than the Type S - how much would you miss the extra kit?

Do you loose the Sat Nav/HFT, parking sensors and Xenons and gain a glass roof?

there's more room in the back of a type s than you think.

you loose the Xenons, but sat/nav & HFT + reverse cam are options.

You can get the GT spec to fairly similar to EX - minus Xenons, plus roof

size isn't the issue - wife having to get out to let daughter out is just a bit of a pain (for her )

Earlier is thes best... Except if they release the facelift at the end of this year ?
And an Ex with the glassroof with the Diesel (maybe the new one) is for me the best choice (because of your daughter and wife )
