Hpi checks?
I'm looking at a 1.8se civic and some of the panels don't line up.
If a car has been accident repaired and the guy has claimed through his insurance, will this show up in a hpi check? Or is it just write-offs that are recorded? Thanks, Al |

Hi allyli, welcome to civinfo.
As I understand it there are categories of repairs and if the car has been repaired and registered in one of these categories then it will show up on a HPI check. But even if it doesn't do you really want to buy a car that has mis-aligned panels |

Worth mentioning that my door panels were say 2mm misaligned from new, and the bonnet isn't exactly central. How bad is the one you are looking at ?

I agree with 'PCR' that the panels are not perfect from new, I have had 2 x Civic's and both had to be adjusted because they did not align.
It may be worth going to your local dealer and looking at a few new and pre-owned to compare to the one you have seen. |

This might be useful...
http://www.abi.org.uk/Public/Consume...cleSalvage.pdf It would appear that notifications of theft or damaged vehicles are passed to HPI. So an HPI check should, in theory, show it up. It depends how attractive the price is. Bear in mind that if it is subject to a total loss, or the report appears on HPI then when you come to sell it you'll get next to nothing. I'd steer clear if I were you. |
