Also check out the surveys on this site. While many in this tread have point out the Cons in equal number to the Pros (and fair play to them) you will see in the satisfaction survey (last time I looked) less than 5 % of people on this site who took the survey are less than satisfied with the car.

I have an Accord because I need the load space of the Tourer but if I had the choice I would take the fully loaded Civic over my mid range Accord. (and I know the car literally inside out).

Hi I have just gone from a 52 plate Audi A6 Quatro V6 2.5l Diesel to a Civic EX. I changed because the Audi had a list of problems and I needed some reliability.

I have had the Civic 4 weeks and done about 2000 miles and I am VERY happy with the change.... Mind you if I could afford to buy a new A6 Quattro I think I would have

Do you really think so?? Had an ST myself a few years back when they came out - so obviously I havent driven them back to back, but much more torque and grunt from the ST than the 1.8 IMO. When I test drove the 1.8, it was very nice, but it felt like it took forever to get going.

I admit the gearing in the ST was a bit long, so much so that I did wonder why they gave it 6 gears...I was very fond of that car, great handling too

I think one thing to remember when purchasing the Civic is that it isn't a 'premium' model. There are differences and there are quality issues that are probably very obvious to those who have driven a BMW, AUDI, MERCEDES etc.

Just an observation.

I agree, but my Civic was 'only' 4,000 pounds less than my 520iSE when that was new. (albeit some changes over time to what the money is worth comparitively, it (the Civ') was still not a cheap car [Over 21,000 pounds] by any means).

I agree the civic isn't exactly cheap and that may give people a false impression of the car's quality credentials as in materials etc.

Yes that's right and I have fallen for it myself
To be fair however, I must say I've lately encountered a new audi Q7 with a dashboard creaking badly (I guess there too only the price is premium) - perhaps the accountants prevail over the engineers and we must get used to it. But if a new car is feeling cheaper than the old one, it starts worrying me... A guy I know drives a very old Mercedes SL coupe (the one with the "edgy" chassis) - perhaps 15 years old, maybe more, I don't know exactly. One of his mates owns a Mercedes dealership so (4 years ago now) he went to him to talk about a new SL to buy. The answer was "I would keep the old one if I were you".
That I guess describes the current situation best.
