Second Service

The Civic had the second service today. How expensive! I phoned around for a few quotes but the service still cost £310. Add to that new pads front and rear and new wipers bringing it to just shy of £500. Anyone else had to have new pads front and rear under 20k miles? I don't drive particularly hard so was surprised they needed replacing.

Have a look at this, another member has posted a second service cost of £299.

Service Cost - Civinfo Wiki

At least it looks like they stuck to the fixed price menu for the brakes and then wipers at £20?

I think I might ring my dealer to re-enquire about the 3 year plan they offered me when I bought my car.

I'm signing up to the 5 year plan this month, its £500 for 5 years servicing and you get a discount on parts too! The first service is £200 and the second £320 on a CTR so you'll get your money back after 2 years and more.

This offer is only on new cars, and you have 8 months (or 8,000 miles) to take out the plan!

Yeah, cracking deal. I got mines for my Xmas. Also saves the hassle and 'Shock' bill when you pick the car back up.

Yes I'm going to get the Honda Happiness 5 year deal too. I rang my dealer today and was told the 3 year deal with them was around £500 and a two year deal was £394.

They say that the H/H 5 year deal is heavily subsidised by Honda.

You should also take a look at budget plan servicing if your local dealership offers it. Much the same way as paying your Gas or Electric bill via direct debit, you pay a monthly payment each month which is then offset against your servicing costs.

I think that is what they offered me today. They gave me a price for a 2 and 3 year deal, but with a monthly payment. I didn't want that so asked if I could pay up front. That's when they came up with the £394 for the 2 year and over £500 for the 3 year. So obviously the 5 year Honda Happiness deal is a no brainer, compared to these prices.

Is there any margin in the £500 Honda Happiness 5 year deal for discount from dealer to dealer

I'm not really bothered where I buy it from.

I called two dealers about this and it seems that its a fixed price from Honda. Your car must be under 8,000 miles and under 8 months old.

It's still a bargain at £500 though isn't it.

Hi GG06.. Sounds like the STEALERS are really living up to their name on this one... Front and rear pads at under 20k miles..!! come on...their taking the p@$s..!

Did you ask to see the old ones or have any problems with your brakes before hand..? Sounds abit premature for pad replacement at this milage.

Surely Honda wear n tear parts should last till at least 40k..?
My Civic just turned 18k the other day and is due for it's second service at 20k, due to it being serviced at 8k when I bought it so I'll be keeping my eyes on ma pads before it goes in to be ready for the sting..!

Keep yi posted..

Just make sure they give you the old ones
You can replace only the blades not the whole "profiles" of the wipers - it's even in the manual. Comes much cheaper, so it's useful to have a spare pair once warranty is over

Avoid Barretts

I only totter Millie about locally usually.

On a visit to Canterbury to see the sights I booked in pre Millie for its second service.

The guys at Barretts of Canterbury said that it would be the 24,000 mile service that I required.

I explained that the vehicle had only done 6000 miles and therefore the cheaper 12,000 service would be the most appropriate one.

The guy behind the counter said something like, 'hang on a minute, I'll find out'.

The Service Mamager came out of her office and said that if I insisted on the 12,000 mile service, I would invalidate the warantee.

I did insist on the 12,000 mile service, and after supposingly carrying out that service, they wrote on my service book on the appropriate page.
'Customer insisted on 12,000 service at this stage therefore invalidating the warantee'!!

This caused an argument at the service desk which they, could not/would not resolve.

A letter to the Managing Director got the friendly suggestion of, 'If you don't like what we do go somewhere else!'

Life's hard enough as it is without guys like that telling how you MUST spend your money!

Needless to say that I have not, or will not, trouble them again with my custom

......even if they could offer a free *****!

Just called my local dealer for a cost for the 25k service on the 2.2 Diesel:

- 25k Service = £253
- 25k Service including stripping, cleaning and lubing brakes = £299.

Ewens of Honda, Cornhill, Aberdeenshire.

Seems very good to me.

No exactly a reply on the subject of second service but my first service has been quoted at £202.98 all in - that is Johnsons, Milton Keynes. Any comment as to whether this is negotiable. Mine is a Civic 2.2 diesel, registered March 2007, and now done 10,500 miles.
